But, What Exactly Is Stiff Person Syndrome?

Celine Dion posted an extremely sad and emotional video on social media where she finally spoke out about her ongoing battle with Stiff Person Syndrome which has been affecting her and taking a major toll on every aspect of her life for quite a while. Stiff Person Syndrome is an acquired medical disorder that is mainly neurological. It affects very few people in the world and is extremely rare. It directly affects one’s ability to do everything from work and move to even talk normally. It stiffens the muscles more and more, over time. This progressing stiffness can literally cause muscle spasms.

This serious disorder usually affects the person everywhere, from the torso, legs and arms to even the neck, back and other areas. Stiff Person Syndrome can also make one extremely vulnerable by causing a serious sensitivity to touch, distress as well as noise. It can literally make one feel disabled, in various ways. Although this syndrome can be stabilised, its severity and speed of progression varies from person to person.
