Vijay Raaz Arrested On Charges Of Molestation. Maybe Now We Will Hold Celebrities Accountable?

From watching him deliver a side splitting performance in Run, to a convincing gangster in Delhi Belly and then finally enacting an angry, resentful father in the movie Gully Boy, Vijay Raaz has always been an actor that his fans and even people from the industry have looked up to. Breaking out of the conventional rut, he has taken up unconventional roles and done them justice, and done them so well, they’ve aged beautifully to turn into meme fodder in today’s times. And while he really is a great actor, not so much can be said about this conduct in the real world.  We say this after Vijay Raaz was arrested on charges of molestation of a woman crew member on November 3.

Before we get into the details, we want to applaud the woman who came forward to talk about the molestation. It takes a lot of strength to come forward on a film shoot and call out a man of Vijay Raaz’s stature for harassment. The actor was arrested by the Gondia police on Tuesday after allegations by a woman crew member on the sets of Sherni.

“The woman came to us with the complaint on Monday night, saying she was molested by Vijay Raaz in a hotel where the film crew is staying. Based on her complaint, we lodged an FIR and arrested Raaz on Tuesday morning. A local court later granted him conditional bail,” Gondia Additional Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni told The Indian Express.

“We collected evidence of the incident and then proceeded to arrest Raaz,” Kulkarni said, adding, “There are eye-witnesses from the crew who have spoken to us about the accusation being true.”

While he’s already out on bail, we are glad women are speaking up against actors like Vijay Raaz. This is important because we’ve seen how all the names called out in the #MeToo movement are back at work without a dent on their reputation. So this is certainly a step in the right direction.
