Vanessa Hudgens Gets Slammed For Calling Death By Coronavirus Inevitable. We Think She Was Insensitive In Doing So.

Vanessa Hudgens Gets Slammed For Calling Death By Coronavirus Inevitable. We Think She Was Insensitive In Doing So.

I have come to realise that as a journalist, or rather as someone working for a publishing house, the biggest competitor we have in the market right now is no longer the next door publishing house or the news channel that is also breaking stories. It in fact has come down to us versus the numerous Whastapp groups and ill-informed individuals, who have taken precedence over actual reporting by spreading rubbish rumours that are either incorrect or insensitive. And one such recent example of the same among us is of the High School Musical actress, Vanessa Hudgens.

As the world currently finds itself struggling with the widely and quickly spreading Coronavirus, there is a lot chaos, tension and misinformation in the air. With the word about COVID-19 spreading just as dangerously as the virus itself, the world is witnessing a need for more people to step in and spread the word about some of the basic guidelines and precautions that we as citizens can take at this hour. And while on usual days, celebrities are a great way to influence people with the right kind of message, Vanessa Hudgens was a disservice to her 38.5 million following, after what she had to say about the virus.

Having hosted an Instagram live session with her followers on Instagram recently, the actress was seen passing some loose and insensitive remarks about the coronavirus, the kind that weren’t received well by the netizens. And for good reason, we’d say. Addressing the matter of international concern, she was dismissive when she said, “I’m sorry, but like, it’s a virus, I get it, like, I respect it, but at the same time, I’m like, even if everybody gets it, like yeah, people are going to die, which is terrible but like, inevitable?” And we, like, kinda, didn’t appreciate what she had to say.

For an actress with that huge a fan following at her disposal, and a chance to say what people might need to hear, her stance on it was insinuating how hundreds of people dying every day was no big deal and was bound to happen anyway. A sentiment, or lack thereof, that has now sparked a social media outrage against the actress ultimately led the actress to apologise for her poorly made statements.

She took to twitter to share her apology with the netizens, except they didn’t seem to accept it all too well. She wrote. “Hey guys. I’m so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram live yesterday. I realize my words were insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now. This has been a huge wake up call about the significance my words have, now more than ever. I’m sending safe wishes to everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time.”

As twitterati stayed stuck on their opinion of Vanessa Hudgens being rather inappropriate in her conduct, they went ahead and condemned her even for her apology and asked her to do away with the tokenism. And we kinda understand where that annoyance is coming from, considering the last thing that the world needs right now is to make a mockery of what has actually led for people to lose their lives.

These are troubled times and we can’t be too careful, even more so for those with such influence, who can impact millions with everything they do. Guess this wasn’t just a wake up call for her, but also a lesson for the rest, to mind their words before they drop them.
