The White House Reveals That US President Joe Biden Plans To Nominate A Black Woman To The Supreme Court. We’re Glad To Hear This!

The current president of the United States, Joe Biden, has time and again made headlines for supporting women and empowering them too. Ever since he won the elections, the American politician has been winning us over with his decisions and moves in favour of women. TBH, he had our heart the second her chose an Indian-American woman of colour to be his running mate for the 2020 US Presidential elections. As Indian women, we couldn’t help but boast about Kamala Harris’ Indian heritage and her achievements as a woman in politics. And it seems like Joe Biden might win our hearts once against if he chooses to nominate a woman of colour to fill the Supreme Court vacancy that will open up after Justice Stephen Breyer’s retirement.

It seems like US President Joe Biden is all set to fulfil the promise he made to the people during the 2020 Presidential elections. During his campaigning days, Biden had said that he would make history by choosing a Black woman if given a chance to nominate someone to the Supreme Court. “As president, I’d be honoured to appoint the first African American woman. Because it should look like the country. It’s long past time,” Joe Biden had said in February 2020. And now, in 2022, the word is that Justice Stephen Breyer plans to retire later this year at the end of the current Supreme Court term in June. But this has not been confirmed officially yet. If this does happen, it will give the President an opportunity to nominate an African-American woman.

The White House has said that President Joe Biden will honour his commitments and nominate a woman of colour as his first nomination to the Supreme Court to replace the liberal Justice, Stephen Breyer. During a press conference, the White House Press Secretary told the media that the President has reiterated his commitment to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court. He further added that Joe Biden will stand by his words. In the past, only two African-Americans have served as Justices on the Supreme Court and both of them were women. So, the current President of the United States of America will make history if he nominates a woman of colour to the Supreme Court.

The retirement and replacement of the Justice will not shift the court’s current 6-3 conservative majority. FYI, the United States Of America’s Supreme Court plays an important role in the lives of the people and for the country. More so because it is often the one authority that has the final word on controversial laws, final appeals to stay executions as well as disputes between the federal and state governments. And get this, once nominated and approved by the Senate, all the Justices of the Supreme Court serve a lifetime appointment.

NGL, we’re really glad to hear that Mr President plans to give a woman an opportunity to grow and that too a woman of colour. About time it happened.
