Study Reveals Urban Middle-Aged Women More Likely To Experience Loneliness, Abuse Is One Contributing Factor

As we grow older, there’s one learning that most of us often discuss. It’s about how small our circle becomes with time. Through life experience, we sort of start trusting people less, we become more comfortable with our own “Me” time, or you know just being happy around those few close people, who have managed to stick with us through all the thick and thin. Talking about women specifically here, we are all trying to just make ourselves stand on our own feet, putting in our best selves to become independent and happy. Everything’s great but there is shocking data that really deserves our attention. The study has revealed that urban middle-aged women can have higher chances of experiencing loneliness, and the reasons are distressing.

The study was published in the journal of Women’s Midlife Health. It was conducted on 50 women participants, out of whom 33 were unemployed and 36 were African Americans. The age group of the participants ranged from 36-60.

The factors that are said to be responsible for loneliness among this age group of urban middle-aged women are said to be financial well-being and abuse. As per a report on this, it is said that women who experience trauma or abuse at early ages in life tend to exclude themselves as much as possible. The fact that women do not feel understood also becomes a major cause of loneliness. Also, it’s always the women who are loaded with all the child work responsibilities, and also have to carry the burden of being in an unsafe world which becomes another reason why women are more like to be lonely in their mid-life, as per the report.

The results, especially the reasons that researchers have given for it are really shocking. The world is definitely not a safe place for women and unpleasant experiences that we go through at a very early stage in our lives are hard facts, none of us will deny. Little did we know that it has such severe impacts on us. These studies should become an eye-opener for society, only for them to realise how badly women are being affected by the world around them.
