UP Draft Bill Suggests Allowing Of Third Child After 2 Daughters. This Is Horrible

There is no denying that the population of India is on a rise. And there is an urgent need to control it. I mean, I live in Mumbai, and all those who live here (and even those who don’t) know that this city has no space to breathe. And that is the case with most of the country. So while all states are doing their bit to keep the population in check – Uttar Pradesh is also doing its bit. Among many suggestions for the UP draft bill, one of them was allowing a third child after already having two daughters. Because obviously, daughters simply do not count. 

Recently, the Uttar Pradesh Law Commission received over 8,500 suggestions for its new Uttar Pradesh Population ( Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill. Among them was the suggestion to allow a third child for couples who already have two daughters.

The Uttar Pradesh Population ( Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill is put in place with the aim to decrease the gross fertility rate in Uttar Pradesh by limiting the government benefits to those couples who have more than two children. It also is set to provide incentives for couples who have a maximum of two children. 

The bill was uploaded on the law panel’s website on 9th July and also encouraged public suggestions on the bill till 19th July. There were around 8,500 public suggestions that came in from the entire state. The 8,500 suggestions that were presented to the panel of Uttar Pradesh Law Commission for the Uttar Pradesh Population ( Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill – have been further divided into 53 categories for better viewing.

The State Law Commission Chairman, who was also a former judge at the Allahabad High Court, Justice AN Mittal is the one preparing the draft for the Uttar Pradesh Population ( Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill. He said, “The State Law Commission has received wide-ranging suggestions. People have suggested permission for a third child to parents who have two daughters… Some have also suggested permission for a third child to couples whose children are physically challenged.” He even added that the draft is complete and soon the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath will be called to hand over the report.

In fact, there are many who have criticized the suggestion aspect of the Uttar Pradesh Population ( Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill. One of the experts, Madhu Garg, the vice president, UP, the All India Democratic Women’s Association, said, “Such suggestions must not be accepted. It promotes a mindset that prefers sons over daughters.”

The Uttar Pradesh Population ( Control, Stabilization, and Welfare) Bill, even though it is a good start to controlling the population in Uttar Pradesh, the fact is that Madhu Garg is also right to her point. If allowing a third child after having two daughters is taken as a suggestion, it will encourage the mindset that daughters are seen as a burden. This idea needs to be canceled out and steps should be taken to ensure that it is being done. Such suggestions should be ignored and or canned by the Uttar Pradesh Law Commission for a better future for all girl children.
