UK Tells Couples To Make A Choice Of Either Moving In Or Staying Apart. Whoa, Many Relationships Are Going To Get Tested

Out of all the things that one can imagine or anticipate in the wake of a global pandemic, getting relationship advice is probably the least expected. Which is why, as this threatening virus spreads its wings to the rest of the world, couples find themselves in a bit of fix over it. You see, everywhere, countries have gone into complete lockdowns and individuals are being requested to stay home and stay safe. Suddenly either all couples have been put together into a house for an indefinite time, or the ones like me, have been put apart. But  for good reason, of course.

And as the world experiences this long distance relationship to keep each other safe, some experts discuss whether this is going to be safe for the love they share or not. As Britain too experiences itself going into a lockdown, the United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson announced and urged citizens to stay in the confines of their homes, while banning a gathering of more than two people on streets and suggesting to maintain at least a distance of 2 metres from outsiders.

A move that seems much similar to the ones being adopted by a lot of countries, including India, ultimately raising the question that was also pointed out by the Jenny Harries, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, of whether couples who do not live together should stay apart or risk spreading the disease.

You see, as this lockdown keeps stretching itself to more and more time, chances are that if you were away from your partner at the time, you will have to be away for quite a while now. And that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. And in the UK, they are asking to pick sides in their relationships. They are either to move in together, which can be awkward if you’ve just started dating or something. Or they can choose to stay apart, which can be quite testing. Speaking on the matter, Jenny said, “The alternative might be that for quite a significant period going forward they should just test the strength of their relationship ..test really carefully your strength of feeling..”

Whether you decide to stay apart, or together in this quarantine, the idea, according to Health minister Matt Hancock, here is to “make your choice and stick with it.” And we can see where this is coming from. In a desperate need to look for a silver lining, couples who have been away from each other, could use this time and experience to test just how strong and withholding their relationship, while for the ones who are together in this virus crisis, couldn’t have gotten a better time to make a case for their compatibility. Because let’s face it, it isn’t ideal for anyone, but the need of the hour is sure to offer couples some clarity, and at this point, if it doesn’t come with Covid-19, we will take it!

After all, what doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger, right?
