Track Athlete Anju Bobby George Reveals She Has Achieved Success In Her Career With Only One Functional Kidney. She’s Such A Star!

Women, even though are always touted to be the weaker sex, have proved it with enough accolades and achievements that they aren’t any less when it comes to men. Some would even say they are more, considering how much they’ve managed to accomplish with so little, especially with limited support and resources from the society. And one such woman who despite having odds against her, has managed to do us proud is athlete Anju Bobby George.

The great Olympian who has made her name as Indian’s one of the most celebrated track athletes has also won an impressive and historic bronze medal in the 2003 World Athletics Championship in Paris and a gold in the IAAF World Athletics Finals in Monaco, recently revealed that she did so with only one functional kidney. And here, we have two and yet we struggle day in and day out to complete those 1000 steps a day on our fitbit..

Through a tweet, the illustrious athlete wrote about how even though she had quite a few limitations in her life – health wise, she has managed to get past them and how. She wrote, “Believe it or not, I’m one of the fortunate, among very few who reached the world top with a single KIDNEY, allergic with even a painkiller, with a dead take off leg…Many limitations..still made it. Can we call, magic of a coach or his talent.”

Anju Bobby George told PTI that, “The general perception of the people is that I have a perfect body. But the fact is that I achieved all the success in my field by overcoming all difficulties. I hope that sharing of my experience will help motivate all aspiring sportspersons.”

And it is this kind of perseverance and dedication to keep going, that ultimately separates a winner from a loser. Anju has set a precedent for everyone who ever felt they were being pulled back, that there is truly nothing that can stop you if you put your mind to it with full sincerity

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju also acknowledged her tweet and wrote, “Anju, it’s your hard work, grit and determination to bring laurels for India supported by the dedicated coaches and the whole technical backup team. We are so proud of you being the only Indian so far to win a medal in the World Athletic Championship!”

We too are extremely proud of having such strong willed and minded women amongst us, who have always been such bright example of sheer brilliance despite the curveballs life throws at you.
