Three Women In Bihar Were Thrashed And Forced To Drink Urine After People Suspected Them Of Being Witches

How many of you’ll have heard of the 16th century witch trials in Salem? They’re famous for the mass genocide that occurred. The term witch trial though is a bit of a misnomer though. There were no trials conducted. Women, who were suspected of witchcraft, were stoned to death, burnt at the stake, drowned in lakes etc. Over time, people stopped believing in witches and other things that go bump in the night. But it seems like our country is stuck in time. Often, in states like UP or Jharkhand mainly, women are hunted down based on the suspicion of being witches. Recently, a similar incident occurred in Bihar. This is insane.

In Bihar’s Purnea district three women, including one minor, were tied, thrashed and allegedly forced to drink urine. These three women were accused of possessing witch-like powers. Hence, they were subjected to this kind of torture. There’s really no live and let live when it comes to women, is there?

According to reports, a victim claimed that when her cousin’s wife fell ill she and the other two victims went to check on her. However, the neighbours started calling them witches and said that they used their evil powers and black magic against the sick woman. Then, around 10-12 people accusing them tied the three women together and held them captive. The victims claimed that they were beaten up all night and then in the morning they were forced to drink a mixture of human waste and urine.

The only proof that the people had against these three women is that another woman had fallen sick. It’s these kind of outlandish accusations that prevent us from progressing.. Police officials have stated that 11 people connected to this crime have been booked under anti-witch laws and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It’s disgusting and shameful that in 2021 we’re still torturing and persecuting women on the blind faith that they’re witches using black magic.
