This Woman Accidentally Sealed Her Eye Shut When She Put Nail Glue In Her Eye. She Thought They Were Eye Drops

I had to start wearing spectacles when I was in the fourth grade. Even though my eyesight isn’t so bad, it’s still been a pain to wear specs. This is why, as soon as I entered college, I switched to contact lenses. But it’s not as easy as it sounds. Lenses come with their own set of rules that you have to follow if you like having the gift of sight. One of the most crucial rules is never to sleep with your contact lenses on. If you do, your eyes dry out and it can cause major damage. However, it’s a protocol that many often break, myself included. Here’s the thing though, no one has ever gotten into as much trouble as this woman from the USA got into. You see, after sleeping with her lenses on, she glued one eye shut when she accidentally put nail glue in her eye instead of eye drops. She paid a hefty price because of a sill mistake.

Yacedrah Williams from Michigan, USA, went to sleep wearing her contact lenses. She then woke up around 1 am and tried to take her lenses out. Since her eyes had dried out, she needed some help to remove them. That’s when things went south. She reached into her purse and pulled out a small bottle that she thought were eye drops. The thing to know here is that Yacedrah also kept a bottle of nail glue in her bag to fix broken nails. So, what she thought were eye drops was actually nail glue. A silly mistake that had a disastrous impact. The nail glue sealed her eye shut and Yacedrah had to be rushed to the hospital.

According to reports, Yacedrah realised her mistake just as the glue entered her eye. Talking about the catastrophic mistake, she said, “I was like, ‘Oh my goodness.’ It dropped in my eye, and I tried to wipe it away. It sealed my eye shut. I just started throwing cold water [on it], and I was trying to pull my eyes apart but couldn’t.”

At the hospital, the doctors managed to remove the contact lens which had nail glue on it. Yacedrah said that according to the doctors, the contact lens actually saved her vision. However, she lost her eyelashes on that eye. The doctors had to flip the top of the eyelid and pull on it to remove the lens. That doesn’t sound pleasant. Yacedrah said that she will never keep nail glue and eye drops together or she won’t use nail glue at all. Yep, that seems wise.

Doesn’t this entire incident give you Final Destination feels? The irony is that the contact lens that started all this is what ended up saving Yacedrah’s eyesight. However, the truth is that this could happen to just about anyone who wears contact lenses. We just have to be extra careful to not sleep with our lenses on. Even if you do, check and double check before putting anything in your eye!
