This Man Thrashed His Wife With An Iron Rod Because She Asked For His Help In The Kitchen. This Is Nonsensical

These last few months have been excruciatingly hard on everybody. Not being able to step outside the house to meet anyone or go anywhere has taken its toll on everyone. Although what most of us fail to understand is that while we sit around complaining about how we are running out of Netflix shows to watch, there are a shocking amount of women whose lives have turned into a living nightmare because of these circumstances. Their home is an unsafe environment because they are being forced to live with an abusive spouse. The domestic violence statistics for these last few months are honestly staggering. It has been referred to as the ‘shadow pandemic’.

Every second or third day there is a gruesome domestic abuse case that crosses my desk. From the man who beat his wife up for defeating him at ludo to the man who beat his wife for putting less sugar in his tea, women are being treated like punching bags. Of course, there is some relief. People are talking about this problem and various NGOs are fighting to rescue as many women as possible. But there are way more domestic violence cases than resources.

The incident I want to discuss today is particularly gruesome. This man from Gujarat thrashed his wife with an iron rod because she asked him for his help in the kitchen.

I know that it’s a stereotypical thing in every household where the woman makes dinner and does all the chores while the husband works and lounges around. But that doesn’t mean women get beaten up with an iron rod if they ask for help.

The woman, in a complaint filed at the Gorwa police station, said that her husband thrashed her when she asked him to chop some vegetables while she was occupied with some of her other chores. The accused got so angered by the request that he picked up an iron rod lying nearby and started hitting her with it.

A police officer told Indian Express, “The iron rod was also allegedly pierced through her foot. The local residents, who reached there after hearing her screams, rushed the woman to a private hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.”

This is so messed up. All she did was ask him to chop some vegetables. I don’t see why that is such an outrageous request. He pierced an iron rod through her foot all because she asked for his help. Such men should be treated the same way that they treated their wives. Only then will they learn their wives are not an outlet for their frustration, whatever it is.

The police have booked the mother-in-law and the husband in this case but he is MIA.

Despite the NCW and numerous NGOs acting towards this and rescuing women, we have seen no improvement. Yes, the constant dialogue about domestic violence helps but we also need constant and prompt action to be taken.
