This Man In UP Stepped Out For Groceries But Got Home A Wife. We’ve So Many Questions. Mainly, Ki WTF Is Going On?

When the lockdown started, I thought I should have got married, anyway my nani was persistent. It would have been so much fun to be quarantined with my husband. Or maybe my family could be a little more modern and I, a little less single. That way, I could have been in a live-in relationship. Unfortunately, these aren’t good enough reasons to want a partner, because what do you do with them when all of this is over?

Although loneliness wasn’t the reason cited by this man, Guddu from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh kinda went to buy groceries and returned with a wife. He had married Savita at an Arya Samaj Mandir in Haridwar two months ago. They are hoping to get their marriage certificate once the lockdown is lifted. “We could not get the marriage certificate at that time due to lack of witnesses. I had decided to visit Haridwar again but could not due to the lockdown,” said Guddu.

The woman (his wife) was apparently asked to vacate her rented apartment by her landlord. And hence, they decided it was time to take the step of bringing her home. Of course, his mother was less than impressed with her son and not because he didn’t get the items on the shopping list. The mother told ANI, “I had sent my son to do the grocery shopping today, but when he returned, he came back with his wife. I am not ready to accept this marriage.” It’s great that he stood up for his wife and got her home. But we are amused at the timing of this. It would have been a lot less funny if he hadn’t pulled the whole grocery excuse.

But turns out the police have asked Savita’s landlord in Delhi to let them stay at the apartment she had rented out. I don’t know what happened to social distancing amidst all this. I wish I could do this. Like tell mom ‘Hey, I am stepping out for an essential item’ and bring home a boy! And that’s how I will make it to the headlines the next day. Also, dear Japanese mayor, do you still believe men should be sent grocery shopping instead of women? I think you’d like to reconsider.
