This Man From Delhi Poisoned His Wife And Her Entire Family Because He Felt Humiliated By Them

You know, every time I tell my mother I want to travel around the world or partake in adventure sports, she tells me that after I am married I can do whatever I want. Sometimes, I feel like she believes that once I am married, I am completely safe, invincible almost, and will be protected by my husband. And it’s not just my mother who believes that, it most women who have daughters. Someone really needs to tell them that in this country, regardless of their marital status, no woman is ever completely safe. In fact, more often than not, it’s the husband who is out for blood. Haven’t you watched any detective shows or read any crime reports? Most recently, a Delhi businessman poisoned his wife and her entire family because he felt they repeatedly humiliated him. What even?

On Wednesday, the police arrested Varun Arora for lacing his wife and in-laws food with thallium (a poison), killing his mother-in-law and sister-in-law and leaving his wife in a comatose state. This gruesome incident came to light when the man’s father-in-law and domestic help recovered after treatment. According to reports, Varun planned this murder as revenge. You see, his wife aborted a pregnancy last year which was against his wishes. Also, he claimed that he was made to feel humiliated by his wife’s family because of his failing construction business. Of course, because what else is there to do when you’re ego is hurt and your wife doesn’t do exactly what you want.

This gruesome incident took place on 31 January. Varun allegedly cooked fish laced with the poison thallium and served it to his wife’s family members. While his mother-in-law and sister-in-law perished due to poisoning, his wife, Divya Arora, is in a coma. They have two children together who, Varun claimed, did not eat the poisonous fish because they drank milk.

A senior police officer said, “He claimed he didn’t eat the fish as he had jaw pain… His twin children had milk and didn’t eat the fish either. To throw police off his trail, he decided to consume some drops of thallium. When he was called for questioning a second time, he informed police he was in the hospital for a medical test and shared a report which showed thallium in his blood.” To throw the police off his trail, he consumed some poison himself.

The officer said that Varun procured the thallium for Rs 22,000 from an online pharmacist. DCP (West) Urvija Goel said that Varun orchestrated this entire attack because he wanted revenge and felt humiliated. Varun was also angry because his wife aborted a child after developing complications, on the advice of her mother and sister. The DCP said, “He believed that his father was being reincarnated as his son. However, Divya developed complications and aborted the child on the advice of her parents and sister, against Arora’s wishes.” Further adding, “Arora was questioned and he admitted to procuring thallium and administering it to his in-laws and wife. He wanted to take revenge on them for humiliating him. On his instance, a small glass bottle containing thallium was recovered from his house and his phone containing information on the procurement of thallium was also seized.”

I would ask why the first instinct of a man whose ego has been bruised is violence, or poison, but what’s the point? This man attempted to wipe out his wife’s entire family because he felt like they were humiliating him. Not to mention he put his wife in a coma because she aborted a pregnancy that was riddled with complications. There has to be a way to teach these men that violence, death is never the solution to anything. We are hoping that Varun Arora spends the rest of his miserable life behind bars.
