This Bihar Police Constable Was Accused Of Raping A Woman Constable. However, The Victim Claims No Rape Took Place
What’s more worrying than the surge of rape cases in India is the fact that despite so much awareness and so many dialogues, there seems to be no change. Women continue to be attacked and preyed on. Our country has become so dangerous for women that apparently, even women cops aren’t safe. The case we are discussing today is a complex one. A police constable has been accused of raping a fellow woman constable by her husband. The twist here is that the woman says she hasn’t been raped at all. Erm, so what is going on?
Let’s start at the beginning. A police constable, Rajiv Kumar, in Bihar was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping his colleagues in a hotel room in Patna. The husband of the victim, who is also a police constable, has filed an FIR against Rajiv. Following this complaint the police arrested him.
The thing to remember about this case is that the accused and the victim have been friends for a long time. The victim was deputed at the police recruitment centre in Gardanibagh, Patna and had reached a hotel in Rajiv Nagar after she was called by the accused. When her husband found out that she was with the accused at the hotel, he reached Rajiv Nagar police station and registered an FIR against him for rape. So, he did this without evidence?

The victim, however, has another story. She claims that she was never raped. To confirm, the woman has been sent for a medical examination.
A senior police official said, “The matter came to our knowledge after her husband registered an FIR against the accused. The accused police constable is been sent to jail. We will get the statement of the victim registered against Section 164 before the chief judicial magistrate. Presently we are taking action on the basis of FIR registered by the husband.”
I am very confused about this incident. Was the woman raped? If not then why is her husband randomly assuming she was? Just because his wife was in a hotel with another man doesn’t mean she was raped. And if she really was then why is she denying it despite knowing her rapist is already in jail? The story isn’t adding up at all.
I only hope that if, in fact, the husband is right and the woman constable was raped by another constable then he is held accountable for his actions.
