This 7 YO Girl Impressed Twitterati and Cricket Legends With Her Perfect Helicopter Shot. She Is Already A Star!

In India, cricket is not just a sport but a religion. It’s one thing that truly unites the whole country. However, there is still a long road ahead for our women’s cricket team to get the same (if not more) love and support from the cricket fans. There may be a gap to bridge but it certainly isn’t stopping the young female athletes to dream of making their mark in the Indian cricket.

In fact, there could be an addition to our women’s cricket team soon. You know Mithali Raj and you know Harmanpreet Kaur, but do you know Pari Sharma? Because if you don’t, you will, pretty soon. She is on the way to break records in cricket in a few years, and I say a few years because she is only 7 years old right now. But don’t let her age fool you. Even at the young age of 7, she has demonstrated brilliant cricketing skills and has managed to impress even a few legendary Indian cricketers with her near perfect helicopter shot.

Cricket commentator and former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra shared the video of the little athlete where she is executing the helicopter shot like it’s child’s play. He added his commentary to the clip and captioned the video post, “Thursday Thunderbolt…our very own Pari Sharma. Isn’t she super talented?” Twitter couldn’t help but compare her to Indian cricketer MS Dhoni called her baby girl version of Captain Cool, who made the helicopter shot popular in the first place.

Watch the video here.

Even if you aren’t a cricket buff, you must have heard of Dhoni’s signature helicopter shot which involves hitting the ball with a swift flick of the wrist. Although many cricketers played the shot before, it got its fame from the Indian captain himself who played the dramatic shot in many of his matches. Pari’s perfect emulation of the shot left Twitter users and Indian cricketers Akash Chopra and Sanjay Manjrekar completely bowled over.

Manjrekar retweeted the video and wrote, “I see now helicopter shot being actually practiced. Along with collecting the ball very close to the stumps as keeper, this is another cricketing technique Dhoni has popularised as great options for budding cricketers.” A twitter user commented, “There is Kohli+ Dhoni swing of bat. Wow.. she will play for India one day.” Another wrote, “Sir, she will definitely become the MS Dhoni of women’s cricket.” Many also lauded her speed, balance and hand and coordination.

Just a few months ago, another video of her exceptional batting skill caught the eyes of cricketers like Nasser Hussain, Michael Vaughan and Michael Atherton. The video of her excellent batting went viral and Pari got validation from the biggest cricketers in the world. The former caption of England cricket team, England captain Michael Vaughan shared the video and captioned it, “Have a look at this video .. Pari Sharma .. 7 yrs old .. Her movements are as good as they get.” West Indies batsman Shai Hope wrote, “When I grow up I want to be like Pari Sharma.” In the comment section of one such retweeted video, a twitter user tagged Indian all-rounder Shikha Pandey and said “@shikhashauny You need to find this player.” She responded, “And take a few classes! #sogood.”

Pari hails from Rohtak, Haryana and is preparing to get a place in the Women’s cricket team one day. Her father who has previously played with former India cricketers like Ajay Ratra and Joginder Sharma is the one who coaches her. It’s incredible how some of the most promising young athletes we have seen playing for India show immense talent at such a young age. Pari too shows great potential; her batting technique and swing could give any professional cricket player a run for their money.

If she is such a brilliant player at seven, I can only imagine what this child prodigy will achieve when she is older. I truly believe she is going to shatter all the cricket records and do India proud in the future, as she aspires to. Sorry, Mithali Raj, looks like you will have to wait for a few years to get a player like her on your team. How’s that!
