This 15-Year-Old Girl From Jalandhar Fought Off Two Men Who Attempted To Snatch Her Phone. She’s An Inspiration

Here’s a question for you- what would you do if someone tried to snatch your wallet or phone while you were walking down the street? Would you scream and try to chase them or just blank out? If it’s the latter, don’t be embarrassed. Most of us would react that way. I know I certainly would if I were getting mugged. I would not know what to do until several minutes after the snatchers have gone. To react at that moment takes a great deal of courage with a presence of mind that very few people have. 

Take this 15-year-old girl from Jalandhar, for instance. She fought off two people who tried to snatch her phone and ride off on their bike. Her bravery needs to be rewarded. 

According to reports, the 15-year-old girl named Kusum Kumari, hailing from Fatehpuri Mohalla, was walking home when two men on a bike attempted to snatch her phone. She held on to the snatcher’s hand. She pulled him off the bike by his t-shirt. After this, he started hitting her and even attacked her with a weapon. But she still did not give up and kept fighting him off.

Narrating the incident to Tribune, Kusum said, “I was going home when two bike-borne men attempted to snatch my mobile phone. The accused sitting on the pillion seat grabbed my hand and took my phone. However, I resisted and held his hand. Following which I followed them on their bike and grabbed the pillion rider’s t-shirt. He later hit me and attacked my wrist with a datar (a sharp weapon). But I continued to follow him and later dragged him from his bike. A few minutes later passersby rescued me and held the snatcher. I got my phone later.” 

The courage showed by this young girl is exemplary. All of this was captured by a CCTV camera. The footage shows exactly how she fought off the two snatchers despite getting injured in the process. 

The video has gone viral on social media and netizens are pouring in with their love and praises.

Kusum was admitted to the hospital after this attack. She got her phone back though. The accused has been identified as, Avinash Kumar and he has been arrested by the police. Although his accomplice is still MIA.

The bravery that she has shown today is the kind that books are written about. We are so glad that she fought back and despite all odds did not give up. Also, kudos to the passerby’s who helped her. Because believe it or not, this doesn’t happen often. Usually, in cases like this passers-by stand around making videos. So, this is a refreshing change that made me not give up hope on humanity just yet.

Just like this 15-year-old, it’s essential for all women to fight back when they are being wronged. Self-defence is the only way women can ensure their own safety. We all can learn a little something from this incident.
