Think Your Periods Are Tough? Consider The Life Of This Woman From Chandigarh Who Cries Tears Of Blood On Her Period

Unpopular opinion: House MD is a better show than Grey’s Anatomy. I know that this statement might irk a lot of people but it’s true. Every episode of House MD keeps you enticed. Every plot twist, every weird case Dr House has ever encountered just makes you want more, it’s so easy to get hooked. While watching House MD, I would always wonder whether people actually do have these rare diseases or did the writers on the show just do a mindblowing job. Today though, I have a definite answer. A woman in Chandigarh bleeds tears of blood every time she gets her period. It’s a case that would’ve thrown even Dr House for a loop.

This 25-year-old woman from Chandigarh approached the doctors claiming that she cries tears of blood. Sounds like something straight out of a horror movie, doesn’t it? She was recently rushed into an emergency room of a hospital after she started crying blood. Interestingly though, she wasn’t in any pain or discomfort. This whole thing is just so bizarre.

The doctors ran a plethora of tests on her but everything came back normal. There was no damage to her eyes nor she didn’t have a family history of an ocular bleeding condition. Even the doctors couldn’t figure out what was causing her to bleed from the eyes. However, as they probed further, they saw a pattern. The doctors realised that the two times that the woman has cried blood, she was menstruating. And hence, after ruling out all other probable causes, doctors diagnosed her with ocular vicarious menstruation.

According to reports, it’s an extremely rare condition where a woman bleeds from organs other than her uterus. Bleeding can occur from the lips, eyes, lungs, and stomach and most commonly nose. After this woman was diagnosed with ocular vicarious menstruation the case was registered in the British Medical Journal.

The woman was treated with oral contraceptives containing a combination of estrogen and progesterone. At the three-month checkup, the woman said that she has been free from bloody tears.

This is left me a little scarred. Menstruating is bad enough as it is, with the intense cramps and mood swings, but when you add bleeding from the eyes to the mix it’s almost nightmarish. It’s a rare but absolutely terrifying complication.
