The Single Girl’s Guide To Valentine’s Day

The Single Girl’s Guide To Valentine’s Day

Being single isn’t really a big deal, but it sure feels like that every time Valentine’s Day comes around. Now if you want to feel bad about it, know that you’re single by choice and there’s a damn good reason for it. After all, it’s better to be single than to be with someone who is not cut out for you. While it’s nice to have someone to go home or talk to everyday, you don’t need a man to complete YOU.

Not having that special someone in your life right now doesn’t mean you have to be Sulky Sally on Valentine’s Day. There are a zillion ways to celebrate this day of love, and crying over an ex or that crush who doesn’t know you exist is not one of them. Whether you like having some alone time or go crazy with your girlfriends, this single girl’s guide to Valentine’s Day might just be the best thing you’ll come across today. Celebrate days like these because they’re a reminder of how awesome your friends are and life really is beautiful when you lean to simplify it.

1. Pamper yourself

How often do you take time out to do what you like and makes you happy? Valentine’s Day falls on the weekend this year and nothing gets better than that. Spend time by yourself reading one of your favourite authors, watch Marvel’s Agent Carter (she’s a badass woman and it’s a fabulous TV show) or Orange Is The New Black on Netflix. Take that long overdue trip to the spa where all you need to do is sit back and unwind. Pamper yourself in whatever way makes you happy. Isn’t that what Valentine’s Day is all about?

2. Plan a day trip

Being a Sunday, this is actually totally doable. Make an impromptu plan with the girls and head somewhere on the outskirts of the city, if not further away. A day away from the city will do you wonders, and what could be better than some wind in your hair and an iced latte to sip on? Even better would be going on a road trip and being the one behind the wheel this time around. A day out with your girls will be the best time ever!

3. Host a pyjama party

Oh, how we love these! Get all those chic flicks out or rent some of your favourite romcoms and invite your girls over for a fun-filled pyjama party. Sit back and order in from your favourite pizza place and stock up on the alcohol. If you’re not one to enjoy romantic movies, you could play Play Station, if that’s what you like doing! Could there be a better way to spend the day?

4. Go for a blind date

You know how your friends keep trying to set you up with their friends? You’ve never been big on blind dates, but this Valentine’s Day give it a shot! I know what you’re thinking: What if the guy turns out to be a big bore or something goes wrong. Trust your friends to set you up with someone fun and normal, plus there are always precautions you can take to be safe. Like don’t over do it on the alcohol, and meet in a crowded place meant for socialising. Think about it as something you haven’t done before, and cut it off your bucket list.

5. Go for a date with your BFF

There’s nothing better than having a guy best friend who’s always had your back and helps you put your shit together. Unless he has plans, ask him out on a platonic date and go have some fun with your bestie. Knowing that you’re out with someone who knows you so well and you can be yourself with, will take the tension out of Valentine’s Day. It’ll actually be possible to have lots of fun without being conscious. Sit by the sea, take a long walk on the beach, do absolutely what you want.

6. Go out with the girls

When was the last time you went for brunch with your girl gang? With work and everything getting so hectic, we barely get time for friends or for ourselves anymore. Take this time to make a fun plan with the girls, it could be lunch or even a fun night out painting the town read. Pick up the phone and give them a call! It doesn’t matter when you last spoke to them. They’ve known you for the longest time and it won’t matter that you haven’t seen them in ages. You know it’ll always be the same when you’re with them.

Happy ‘Gal’entine’s Day, girls!
