Taylor Swift Is The Most Influential Person On Twitter, PM Narendra Modi Is A Close Second

With the rise in popularity that social media has faced, the concept of influencers has also become very common. Now as someone who belongs to Gen Z (aka someone who isn’t technically that old), I think that the idea of influencers is lost on me. However, it is undeniable that these personalities do have their influence on the masses, especially the youth. A lot of them have the same celeb status as our mainstream stars do. However, as there are a lot of mainstream celebrities on Twitter and Instagram with millions of followers, it isn’t uncommon for them to be the most influential personalities on these platforms.  According to recent reports from research done by consumer intelligence company Brandwatch, singer Taylor Swift is currently the most influential person on Twitter, followed by PM Narendra Modi.

This doesn’t surprise me considering it is well… Taylor Swift! She has been nominated for more than 40 Grammys and has won around 13 of them! PM Modi holds second place on the top 50 most influential people on Twitter right after Taylor which is the same position he held as last year. Teenage Dream singer Katy Perry made it as the third most influential person on Twitter.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is on number 35. His name on the list is followed by celebs such as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Leonardo Di Caprio. He also precedes former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. According to reports, the research said that the reason for Tendulkar’s popularity and name on the list is his, “appreciable real work for the less fortunate, lending his voice and presence for the right causes, his inspired fans following his work and his partner brands’ relevant impactful campaigns.” Sachin has not only been a former captain but also a Rajya Sabha MP and is associated with UNICEF along with being the appointed ambassador for South Asia in 2013.

Positions were also occupied by Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga as they closed in on positions 7 and 8, respectively. Following them closely is Ellen DeGeneres at ranked at position 9 and Kim Kardashian at 10. We also have Queen B, Beyoncé at number 48 for the most influential people on Twitter, ending the list with Nick Jonas at number 50.

Brandwatch also said that for the second time in a row, ‘Musician’ is the most influential vocation on Twitter as 54% of the influencers ranked fall under the category. Additionally, ‘Television Host’ is the second most influential profession as 12% of the influencers on the list belong to this category.

It is good to know that most people on the list are people who are worthy of having their voices heard and actually can make a positive impact. Rather than TikTok stars, I reckon that is what we as a society need right now.
