Tamil Nadu Married Couple Celebrated Via Hogwarts Themed Reception In Metaverse

I am so intrigued by this!

I use the word “technologically challenged” when I have to describe myself. I wouldn’t call myself as bad as my grandma but you see the standard I am setting here? Hence, whenever anyone tells me about anything new (read: absurd) that people have managed to do via technology, I turn into Bhide from TMKOC going “hamare zamaane me…” I guess that’s probably because a lot of what technology, has made possible, is almost unbelievable to my technologically challenged self. I felt the same when I read about this Tamil Nadu couple who hosted a Hogwarts themed wedding in the Metaverse.

A Tamil Nadu bride and groom have held their reception in the metaverse and had hosted all the guests on there too. Dinesh SP and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy got married on  February 6 in Sivalingapuram which is a small tribal village in Tamil Nadu. Their friends and family from around the world were able to attend the ceremony and the reception as it was held in the virtual world.

Metaverse is a platform that combines various aspects of technology such as virtual reality, augmented reality and blockchain. Here people can make digital avatars and use them to live in the digital world and also interact with other people in the same verse.

Dinesh decided to hold the reception in the metaverse due to the pandemic and restrictions on guests. So he decided to have his wedding with a small group of close people and then had his reception in the metaverse with everyone he wanted to invite. He said that he had been working on blockchain technology for a year. A start-up called TardiVerse worked on the metaverse for a month where the event was hosted. Along with avatars of the bride and groom and all the guests, one was also made for the bride’s late father.

Dinesh is a project associate with IIT Madras and discussed how the Metaverse reception idea came to him. “I came up with the idea of having a Metaverse wedding reception, and my fiancee also liked the idea,” he said, according to sources, “I have been into crypto and blockchain technology, and have been mining Ethereum, a form of cryptocurrency, for the last one year. Since blockchain is the basic technology of Metaverse, when my wedding was fixed, I thought of having a reception in Metaverse.”
