Latest Study Finds 57% Of Women In India Are Anaemic. Ladies, You Skipping Your Spinach And Beetroot?

Women who experience heavy periods tend to develop anaemia because they lose more blood and red blood cells. This is quite concerning because low haemoglobin levels mean that the cells that carry oxygen throughout your body are low, indicating that your body is getting low oxygen. Anaemia is one of the major health issues that many women experience and the reasons for the same could range from heavy period flow to improper diet. A recent report by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MosSPI) has revealed that the number of women who are getting anaemic has increased between 2019-2021.

As per the latest reports, MoSPI referred to data released by National Family Health Survey (NFHS), and made their own report about the rising cases of anaemia in women. The MoSPI report stated that anaemia had risen from 53 per cent in 2015-2016 to 57 per cent of women in the age group between 15 to 49 years. The report is titled Women and Men in 2022.

The report also shed light on the state-wise statistics that show the number of women suffering from anaemia. The number of states where women who are between the age group of 15-24 years has also risen from 21 to 25 in the NFHS conducted in 2019-21. The news report by print that analysed all the data also put forward the shocking data that over 57 per cent of women in our country suffer from anaemia. What is also noteworthy is that the percentage of women suffering from anaemia in the north eastern states is less than the percentage of women having anaemia in the rest of the country.

Also, the percentage of non-pregnant women who had anaemia is higher than those of women who are pregnant. This can be credited to the iron supplements that are prescribed to pregnant women.

Therefore, ladies, it is important to eat your greens like spinach which are rich in iron which will in turn raise your haemoglobin levels. You can incorporate beans, eggs, dates, figs and broccoli in your diet to keep your haemoglobin levels in check. Don’t neglect your health because nothing comes first before it.
