Sonam Kapoor Was Offered Just Rs 11 For Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Here’s Why She Agreed To Do It

We all crave to get paid for the work we’re passionate about and love to do. But for a good opportunity, we’re even ready to work for less or at times even for free. And this is the same for most of the Bollywood actors and actresses as well. Where on one side we have heard Bollywood actors and actresses have not gone ahead with a film project because they were not happy about the pay – on the other hand, there have been Bollywood actors and actresses who have done exactly the opposite. Take the instance of Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, who accepted the guest role of Biro in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag for just Rs. 11.

Recently, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, the Bollywood director in his autobiography, ‘The Stranger In The Mirror’, spoke about how he enjoyed working with Sonam Kapoor in Delhi 6. This is why he chose to get her on board for his next big project – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

In his autobiography, Bollywood director, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, said, “Sonam Kapoor benevolently accepted to play a guest appearance for a princely sum of Rs. 11 only for her brief portrayal of Biro.” He even stated that Sonam Kapoor took the spotlight every time she was on screen in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

In fact, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor also shares the same bond with him. She was also seen stating that she was the one adding the “tadka” in the film – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. And it was this grounded nature of the Bollywood actress that made Rakesh Omprakash Mehra gush about the actress.

In ‘The Stranger In The Mirror’, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra spoke about how Sonam Kapoor understood the essence of the film. He also explained that she understood that the movie was not a partition love story but rather a partition survivor’s journey through his traumatizing childhood and his sister, Isri Kaur – the only connection he had left to his past.

A lot of people had asked Rakesh Omprakash Mehra why only Rs. 11 was paid to the Bollywood actress, Sonam Kapoor, he said, “She chose to accept Rs. 11. She had a special appearance in the film. Both of us shared an amazing journey with Delhi-6 before that. She told me that she is needed for just 7 days for the shoot and she praised us for trying to say something so beautiful, about the partition of this country and the spirit of Milkha Singh. So she wanted to contribute to the film as well. It was very nice of her.”

And I agree. It was indeed very nice of Sonam Kapoor to charge the bare minimum for such a brilliant movie. It just makes me realize how most of the artists are hungry for a good role rather than money. No denying that money is an integral part of the process, but it is very rare to find such Bollywood actors and actresses that put their craft and or relation above materialistic things.
