Sonali Bendre And Tahira Kashyap Show Grit And Determination In Their Posts About Being Survivors Of Cancer

In life, we let a lot of what has happened to us, define us. From our failures to success to tragedies to even illnesses, more often than not. it so happens that rather than acknowledging ourselves for the people we may have become after what what went down, we limit ourselves to that one thing that changed us. Although as big as it may have been, it still doesn’t have to define us. A thought that former actress Sonali Bendre recently tried to make, after she spoke about her battle with cancer.

Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with the illness in 2018, she had what is called a metastatic cancer. She flew to New York to get treated for the cancer and while her journey to battle cancer was a lot of things, easy wasn’t one of them. With 30% chance of survival, Sonali Bendre kept going strong, occasionally losing hope but never stopping her endeavour to be healthy again. And today, she hasn’t just come out of the other end of the tunnel, healthy and happy, but she also refuses to let her disease define her.

In a heartfelt post on the occasion of Cancer Survivor day, Sonali Bendre shared a post on her Instagram and Twitter accounts tagging two pictures of herself. One from the time she was getting chemotherapy and another, a more recent one, where she didn’t just look healthier, but also stronger and more resilient.

She wrote, “How time flies… today when I look back, I see strength, I see weakness but most importantly I see the will to not let the C word define how my life will be after it…You create the life you choose. The journey is what you make of it… so remember to take #OneDayAtATime and to #SwitchOnTheSunshine #CancerSurvivorsDay.”

Tahira Kashyap, who was too detected with breast cancer and survived it with a lot of courage and hope, also took a moment to share her words on Instagram. She put up a story of her scar on Instagram with a moving caption that read, “Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you. Everyone has scars- whether you can see them or not. Wear yours with pride. #NationalCancerSurvivorsDay.”

Perhaps it takes women like Sonali and Tahira and hundred thousands out there just like them, who fight this fight everyday and come out stronger to remind us that there isn’t anything that us women can’t endure. And that no matter what happens, what defines us will be our strength, and never our tragedy.
