Sonakshi Sinha Still Gets Trolled For Her Blunder On KBC Which Happened Six Months Ago. We Need To Be Forgiving, Everyone Makes Mistakes

Do you know what happens to a joke when you tell it over and over again, especially a joke wasn’t funny, to begin with? It becomes annoying. But the bittersweet truth is that we live in a world that is fuelled by memes and trolls. Of course, some are tears-streaming-down-your-face funny, some want to make you hit the creator over the head and once a joke has stuck, there is no erasing it.

If I am being honest, I live for memes. They are a major part of how I have kept myself entertained during this lockdown. But I hate it when people start trolling and making memes on other people’s mistakes, especially celebrities. I understand that some people might find this funny but it’s hurtful to mock someone over and over again, this is called bullying. And even school-going children know that it’s wrong to bully someone.

You remember Alia Bhatt’s infamous gaffe on Koffee With Karan that people tormented her for? It went on for months. What about all the memes and jokes on Jhanvi Kapoor that people tease her with even now? She is targeted for holding a book upside down or forgetting to cut off a label, it’s ridiculous. I think netizens can be unnecessarily cruel sometimes. Just because they chose a life in the public eye, doesn’t make them immune to the hurt that comes with being the butt of jokes. Especially ones that just don’t seem to blow over.

The reason I am talking about this today is that Sonakshi Sinha, who knows what’s it’s like to be on the receiving side of these trolls all too well, opened up about them recently. During an interactive session with the Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sonakshi expressed her displeasure about still being trolled for her blunder on Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Before I tell you what she said, allow me to jog your memory a little. Last year, Sonakshi was a guest contestant on Mr Bachchan’s KBC. During the show, she was asked in the Ramayana, whom did Hanuman get the Sanjeevani booti for? Sonakshi and her companion failed to answer and chose a lifeline. This led to all the meme floodgates of social media opening and she was ridiculed for not knowing basic facts about the epic.

While sharing her side of the story with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, she said, “I participated with a contestant named Ruma Devi. A question was asked to us on Sanjeevani Booti, and for a moment, both Ruma and I went blank. Honestly, it was a bit embarrassing, since we have grown up reading and watching Ramayana. But it was long ago, and we all tend to have moments when we go blank. Since then, it has been five to six months, and it’s disheartening that people still troll me over one honest mistake.”

It’s horrible and riddled with hypocrisy. Yes, we grew up reading the Ramayana but how much do you remember? Before harshly judging someone in their moment of falter, ask yourself if you would be able to answer that question under so much pressure And if you went blank, just like Sonakshi did, how would you like to be publicly shamed for it over and over again?  Every single one of us can relate to going blank on the most obvious things. So, let’s be done with that joke that could just as easily happen to any one of us.

As I said, when someone repeats a non-funny joke over and over again it just gets super annoying. So, here’s a brand-new idea- let’s try letting things go and understand that celebrity or no everyone is above mistakes.

A little kindness never killed anyone.
