Sona Mohapatra Says That She Has Lost Money And Opportunities Because She Is Vocal About Social Issues

We often talk about how celebrities have a duty of using their vast platform to address social issues that are plaguing our society. And while we stick by that, the way these celebrities are treated after they take a stand is absolutely terrible. It’s probably why so many of them maintain a stoic and diplomatic silence about everything that’s going on. We all remember what happened with Deepika Padukone when she turned up at a JNU protest last year. She was severely trolled and dragged to the mud. But she isn’t the only one that has been embroiled in controversies for speaking out against social issues. Recently, in an interview, singer Sona Mohapatra said that she has lost a lot of money and opportunities for being outspoken about prevalent matters. It’s very, very sad.

Sona Mohapatra has always stood up for the right thing. Be it going after Anu Malik for his alleged sexual misconduct or calling people out for supporting sexist concepts, Sona is known for her activism as much as she is known for her songs. She always makes it a point to stand up for those who need it. However, it seems like her tendency to talk about social issues has cost her a lot of money and opportunities. Thankfully, Sona doesn’t let that stop her.

In a recent interview, Sona Mohapatra said, “Being vocal about my social concerns has cost me a lot of money and opportunities but that’s not money worth having in the first place. What we leave behind is what we stood for in our time besides the beauty we create. I have also been naive and sometimes, I’ve been used by people to further their causes, but you live and learn.”

Only if more celebrities understood how to correctly use their fame and influence the way Sona Mohapatra is. It’s really sad that she is suffering because of her tendency to stand up for the right thing. We’re glad that she is still going through. More power to Sona!
