Siddharth Malhotra And Parineeti Chopra’s Jabariya Jodi Trailer Is Out. We Laughed, We Cheered And Then Got Confused

Mondays are tough for me, as they are for almost everyone around. You’re still dealing with the lethargy that was the weekend, or if you’re a party  animal, dealing with the hangover. Making it to work on time is a distant dream, even opening your eyes can be quite a task and honestly it’s time someone paid me to do just that. But today, the scene was a little different. With Jabariya Jodi trailer dropping in, this Monday started with a bang and some major giggles.

The Siddharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra starrer is set in a small town – a motif that’s Bollywood’s current favourite – and well, practically all of Parineeti’s career. We are shown how ‘jabariya jodis’ happen in Bihar, Siddharth’s character Abhay Singh being central to making them actually materialise. His character, and this is established early,  woh shaadi aur shraad dono karvaate hain, which when loosely translated means that they make both weddings and funerals happen. Abhay makes dowry-demanding grooms eat shit, beating them up and getting them to turn up at the mandap without monetary demands. Apparently, this practice of kidnapping grooms is quite prevalent in parts of Bihar but this is the first time we are hearing of this, albeit in a completely fun manner.

After familiarising the viewers with the basic premise, Parineeti Chopra enters the fray, playing the role of Babli Yadav. And bubbly she is. Her characters is strong, we can tell from the word go. Her hair is red, every slow motion frame reminds us. Her dialogues are funny and most of the time, it had us in splits.

A little into the trailer, we find the two having a fallout due to Siddharth’s political aspirations, starting a confusing series of events that has us watching Babli Yadav making all sorts of attempts to get married to Abhay Singh, by hook or by crook. At this point, we’re too confused and to be honest, laughing too hard, to actually care where the storyline is taking us, if it is taking us anywhere that is. But hey, it’s funny and that is more than movies have to offer us these days, so we take it.

Also starring actors like Aparshakti Khurana, Sanjay Mishra, Neeraj Sood, Gopal Dutt, Javed Jaffrey and Chandan Roy Sanyal, the cast seems bang on to deliver what will be a laughing fit for all of us. The movie produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Shaailesh R Singh, is all set to hit the screens on 2nd August. After Hasee toh phassee, that lacked a titular element of hasee, this one looks like it will tickle our funny bone and we can’t wait.
