Shilpa Shetty Kundra Refused Major Roles In Hollywood Because Of This Reason
If there is one thing that I have realized then it is that not every opportunity needs to be grabbed. Even though some opportunities seem like a once in a lifetime chance, it is not necessary that it’s good for you at that moment of time. Prioritizing one’s goals and wants/needs are more important than those rare opportunities that might have come your way. Having experience in the field, sometimes missing out on a particular opportunity does you more good than harm. And I’m not the only one who’d agree – Shilpa Shetty Kundra would back it up.
Recently, the well-known actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra who is coming out of her 14-year-long sabbatical from Bollywood films, revealed that she was offered to star in a major Hollywood project. She said that she refused the project because she wasn’t sure about making such a ‘drastic’ change in her life.
The 46-year-old actress has recently been active on television as a judge on shows like ‘Super Dancer’ and ‘Nach Baliye. Shilpa Shetty Kundra when asked about the Hollywood project, said that refusing the project from Los Angeles was not a decision she found hard. The reason for it being that settling in the United States was not something that she could do.
In an interview with PTI, Shilpa Shetty Kundra who married the businessman Raj Kundra said, “My son was extremely upset with me because I was offered some major stuff even in Hollywood, but I said no to it. To just shift base from Mumbai and settle in Los Angeles is really not my cup of tea.”

And even though she does feel as though she lost out on a great opportunity, Shilpa Shetty Kundra is happy and content doing Hindi films for now. She said that she wouldn’t mind taking up a Hollywood project if it comes along the way but that’s only after her kids turn a certain age.
In the interview, Shilpa Shetty Kundra added, “I’m clear about what I want. I love doing work here. It’s a great opportunity lost, but I’m so happy with whatever I have. I’d be so unhappy to just leave my family and shift gears so drastically… “It’s too much to give and I don’t think I was ready for that. Maybe once my kids are 15, then I would (consider) if I still look this way!”
Even with regards to her 14-year-long break from films, she made it clear that she wanted to focus on her family and her children along with the fact that after movies like ‘Life In A Metro’ and ‘Apne’ she got offered the same type of roles. The actress spoke about how the first seven years of a child’s life are of utmost importance and she wanted to give all her time to her kids. And now that her son is nine and doesn’t need her to be there all the time she can choose the projects she wants to take up. Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s decision to say ‘yes’ to only a few projects is due to the fact that her daughter is one and needs her mother’s presence.
The fact that Shilpa Shetty Kundra made a conscious decision to choose her family life over a career without any pressure is the kind of freedom of choice that every woman should get. A woman should be given the choice to choose what and how she wants to prioritize in her life. Where there are women like Shilpa Shetty Kundra who took a sabbatical, there are women like Kareena Kapoor Khan who had an active professional life during her pregnancy. The important point is that the decision has to be of the woman.
