Shehnaaz Gill Lost 12 Kgs In Just 6 Months Because She Was Fat Shamed. While It’s Great, Her Reasons Are Completely Wrong

Unpopular opinion : If you’d ever feel the need to challenge someone, solely to find out just how cruel they can be to you, all you have to do is be dismissive of the  unrealistic beauty and body standards that the society sets for you. Dusky? watch out for the kaali kaluti taunts. Underweight? ready to be called malnourished? Overweight? Brace yourself to be shamed for those extra calories! This is exactly what went down with Shehnaaz Gill when she was fat shamed, in the full glare of the public eye in her stint on Big Boss. Her weight loss is largely because of that.

Shehnaaz Gill, was one of the many women out there who felt targeted with this kind of prejudice and bigotry, when she was in the Bigg Boss house. Recently in the news for having hit a 180 degree transformation, what with having lost about 12 kilos in just 6 months, we are not sure the reason is right but hey, if she’s healthier, that’s what counts.

Looking as stunning as ever, Shehnaaz has caught the eye of a lot of people after her weight loss, but why she caught ours had more to do with the thought that went behind the transformation, than the transformation itself. You see, while many are considering her physical transformation as an inspiration to start one of their own, we couldn’t help but ponder over her motivation, which as she revealed, arose from how she was ridiculed over her weight in the Bigg Boss house. She said that she weighed 67 kgs back in March and is currently at 55 kgs.

She shared, “A large amount of work has come to a standstill all around, so I thought why not just go for weight loss? Kuch logon ne mere weight ka mazak udaya tha Bigg Boss 13 mein. Kai log weight lose karte hain, maine socha chalo logon ko dikhati hoon ki main bhi patli ho sakti hoon (Some people made fun of my weight in Bigg Boss 13. Many people lose weight, I thought let me show people that I can be slim too). It’s not difficult to lose weight if you really want to.”

She may be right to prove to the world that once you have your mind set on something, making that happen doesn’t seem like a far fetched dream any longer. But in retrospect, the fact that she felt compelled to lose weight, in order to feel more accepted was as problematic as the people fat-shaming her. It’s always good to become and remain fit, especially if you’ve suffered from obesity in the past. But choosing to lose weight only to please the society and fit in better, like Shehnaaz’s weight loss should never be a reason you bring that change upon yourself. At the end of the day, you must choose what drives you carefully, because if not, it wouldn’t be long before you lose yourself to it.

Shehnaaz Gill Weight Loss

Shehnaaz Gill’s weight loss journey was anything but easy. She shared, “Trust me, I went in for a simple reduction in my eating habits. You can say that I cut off on my non-vegetarian food, chocolates and ice cream and nothing else. But besides that, let me explain how I ate because therein lies the catch. Every day, I ate just one or two things. I wouldn’t stuff too much variety in my daily consumption of food. For example, if I ate dal and moong for lunch, I would eat the same for dinner. And I reduced the portions. If I was hungry for two rotis, I ate only one. Mann maarke khati thi (I would suppress my feeling of hunger and eat). And it started working.”

While we think she looked gorgeous both – before and after, we sincerely hope women out there don’t feel the urge to comply to how the society wants you to be. And certainly not by putting you mental health on the line. If  she had to mann maaro, that doesn’t say much about how she tried to lose weight. You’re your own person, the human body is capable of quite a variation for everyone, and being confident in your skin is the best way to shut anyone who says otherwise, up.
