Sanjivani 2 Is Rumoured To Be More Melodramatic Than The Original. We Hope They Don’t Ruin A Classic

Sanjivani 2 Is Rumoured To Be More Melodramatic Than The Original. We Hope They Don’t Ruin A Classic

I’d go on a limb here and say that a major portion of our weekend involves immersing ourselves in the amazing content that video streaming platforms offer us. Now we know, that most rom-coms are just all fluff, but hey, a girl can dream, right? It’s become a thing now – if you don’t watch a Netflix original movie or web series within two weeks of its release, you’re probably living under a rock. I mean, how else would you join in the conversation about Noah Centineo charming our pants off in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before? However, when I was a teen, and at the risk of sounding like an oldie, video streaming platforms hadn’t made their debut. So if you’re a 90s child, you probably binge-watched the several amazing romantic TV series, that served the same purpose as Mills & Boon novels. Sanjivani and its sequel Dill Mill Gayye, Remix, Miley Jab Hum Tum, Hip Hip Hurray, Kahiin To Hoga, etc – I have grown up watching these shows. Sure, this has resulted in us having unrealistic expectations from love, but well!

So when I found out that the good old Sanjivani is coming up with a sequel, I was hit by a wave of nostalgia. I mean, how can you stop yourself when they have that iconic tune playing in the background? The one that was a part of Dill Mill Gayye too. If you’ve watched the show, you will know exactly what I am talking about. And though we’ve already consumed a lot of medical drama, from the likes of House M.D and Grey’s Anatomy, this one has nostalgia on its side!

Now, I did a little digging. Because I am a curious cat and also I was wary of this new version. So far we know that we have some of the old cast in this show, including Dr Shashank Gupta (Mohnish Bahl), Dr Juhi (Gurdeep Kohli), Dr Anjali (Dr Riddhima’s sister, Sayanti Ghosh is playing the character now). Which is great, because it wouldn’t have been the same without Dr Shashank, and of course, Dr Juhi. Literally every guy had a crush on this gorgeous doctor back then.

Those who have had the opportunity to watch the first episode in advance claim that it is well-shot and larger than life. You will get to catch up on how far the hospital has come, since we last left it 9 years ago. To add romance to the drama, we have potential candidates Dr Sid (Namit Khanna) and Dr Ishani (Ishqbaaaz actress Surbhi Chandna), who will share a love-hate relationship and give us the kind of chemistry between Dr Armaan and Dr Riddhima from Dill Mill Gayye. However, the same people who have watched the first episode, claim that it seemed a lot more melodramatic than the first season.

Since this show is so close to our hearts, and also because we see what happened to Kasautii Zindagii Kay, we are a bit worried. We don’t want it to become melodramatic. I mean, if it’s meant for millennials, it should be interesting enough to leave our web series for this. Also, they have a high standard to match up to, because the love story between Dr Armaan and Dr Riddhima was so intriguing that it’s still remembered, almost a decade later.

However, we aren’t going to dismiss it. Because this show was bae back then! I remember, my sisters and I, gathering in the living room, and watching this show diligently. Nobody was allowed to change the channel or even suggest watching something else. The first episode will air on August 12 on Star Plus. Will you watch it?
