Salma Hayek Launches The ‘Stand With Women’ Campaign To Help Fight Domestic Abuse During This Lockdown. It’s The Need Of The Hour

We all can agree that this lockdown is seemingly the most sensible way to cope with this pandemic. Well, we aren’t coping as much as we are merely existing but it’s the only way to flatten our curve. However, this lockdown has made a bad situation worse for a lot of people. Being cooped up at home isn’t all card games and lazing around for everyone, for some people it means that they are in more danger inside than they would be on the street right now.

The NCW and UN have announced time and time again that this lockdown has created more problems for women who are victims of domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes than it has solved. The cases of domestic violence that are being reported has gone up significantly, in some cases, even doubling. And there is no telling how many aren’t being reported at all. As essential as this lockdown is, trapping a woman with her abuser just seems cruel.

To combat just that, Oscar-nominated actress (the gorgeous) Salma Hayek launched a campaign on Wednesday. This #StandWithWomen campaign will be run by Gucci’s Chime For Change initiative. It’s the same initiative that was founded by Salma and Beyoncé in 2013. This campaign is to help fund the organizations that are tackling domestic abuse and women thousands of women who are a victim of that.

Salma took to Instagram to announce this campaign. She has urged all her 14.8 million followers to “stand in solidarity with women”

In the video she posted, she said, “We retreat into our homes to protect ourselves from the threat of COVID-19, but what if our home was a threat itself?” She further added, “It is so important that we take a stand against gender-based violence… We can really achieve change if our voices come together and scream: no more.”

In the caption of the video, she talks about how this campaign is going to help the women who are stuck with indefinitely with their abusers. It reads, “We #standwithwomen by listening to their voices. We stand with women by responding to their unique and various needs. We stand in solidarity with ALL women during this critical time when gender-based violence is increasing and access to health services is limited.”

The #StandWithWomen campaign is also in association with the Kering Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that combats domestic violence in America, Western Europe and Asia.

This is a brilliant initiative to help all those women who have been left to the mercy of their abusers without any escape. There are so many organisations out there trying their best to make things easier on these women, but the truth is, some of those organisations are either running out of funds or the shelters are full. Salma’s campaign will hopefully help nullify these issues, paving a smoother way for NGOs around the globe to help these women.

This campaign is the need of the hour!
