Saand Ki Aankh’s Trailer Is Out And Taapsee Pannu And Bhumi Pednekar Have Hit The Bullseye With This One!

I was 18 when I did my first intership in life and even then I used to think I was probably running a little behind everyone in the race called life. People were starting at the tender age of 14 and 15, doing what they love and I just constantly felt like I wasn’t really accomplishing anything important. Which I probably wasn’t, given that I spent most of my time on my phone? Hey, I surfed a lot of the subway, okay? But had India’s two of the best sharpshooters, Prakashi and Chandro Tomar thought the same at the age of 50, India would never have gained two incredible shooters like them. And that is the story their biopic film – Saand Ki Aankh- tries to tell.

Starring ace actresses Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, both of whom have always picked strong and challenging roles, this one is right up their alley. First of all, the two actresses play women who are more than twice their age for this movie. The one and a half minute trailer, starts with the narration of Chandro and Prakashi Tomar’s granddaughter, who explains that while most have grown up listening to stories from their grandmothers, she is going to start by sharing a story about her grandmother.

Enter Taapsee and Bhumi literally embodying the spirit of the two sharpshooters in a look that they carry very well; these actresses have sunk their teeth into their deglam avatar. The trailer then moves quickly, showing their rather unique and hard-to-miss style of holding their guns and tells us how Saand ki Aankh is actually a reference to the famous english phrase ‘Bullseye’, and boy do they hit it every single time.

From giving us a peek into the struggles they must have endured at an age where they were expected to sit at home and knit, the two actresses do full justice to the characters as they evolve into two strong headed and extremely talented women, standing their ground and becoming ‘shooter dadis’ of the Johri district of Uttar Pradesh.

The script, the acting, the dialogue, and even the accent, all seem fitting and too compelling, making us shift in our seats, waiting for the movie to hit the screens. A few days ago, Bhumi took to her instagram and shared a little character insight by posting a picture of her in the movie and captioning it,  “7 pe ho gai shaadi, 18 tak aa gai munni pyaari, Phir toh silsila chalta raha, Jab tak humnien uthai bandook aur maar di #SaandKiAankh #Bullseye @shooterdadiofficial #ChandroTomar.”

Clearly the two have worked hard to do justice to their roles, and honestly, it shows. These are the kind of movies that need to be made and talked about. They promote empowerment and encourage women around the country that breaking out of stereotypes to pursue your calling might be risky but ultimately worth the effort. The movie hits the screen this Diwali and is produced by Anurag Kashyap, which is reason enough for us to keep our hopes high for this one.
