Ratna Pathak On Naseeruddin Shah And What Has Made Their Marriage So Much Fun

Take the example of the Bollywood couple, Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah. These two have been married to each other for over 40 years! And they still look so in love!
Recently, actress Ratna Pathak opened up all about her relationship with the actor Naseeruddin Shah and honestly, I can’t stop gushing about it. The two have had a strong, healthy marriage for more than 40 years and are parents to Vivaan and Imaad.
In an interview with the leading daily, actress Ratna Pathak revealed details about how she met the actor Naseeruddin Shah for the first time and gave an insight into their marriage. They both – Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah – were working in a play together called Sambhog Se Sanyas Tak in 1975 where they met. And soon after they began dating and after seven years of dating each other, they got married in 1982. When she was asked what attracted her to Naseeruddin Shah, in her typical humor, she said, “It’s entirely a lottery; we just got lucky!”
Ratna Pathak even revealed details of her marriage with Naseeruddin Shah and said that it was one of those few weddings where the couple also had fun. She said, “We had a fantastic wedding. Ours was probably one of few marriages that I attended, where the bride and groom both had fun. We had a ball at our wedding! We went to the beach, swam and drank wine, and had a great time. There were no rituals and no rona dhona (crying). I remember when I left my mom’s place, we all were singing bidaai songs together. Naseer and I were also singing a whole lot of bidaai songs. So, of course, I want that for my kids too, but both of them are not showing any signs of marriage!”
This is not the first time that Ratna Pathak has opened up about her relationship with Naseeruddin Shah. Even when she was on the AIB podcast, she shared a funny incident that took place during their dating days. Reminiscing about her dating days, Ratna Pathak shared, “These fancy restaurants once upon a time used to have two menu cards. One for the women and one for the men. The one for the woman didn’t have the prices and the one for men did. The first time we went together we had like ₹400. We went for this dinner and we just started out in life and we hardly had any money. By mistake, I got the menu card with the money and Naseer got the menu card without the money, so he was ordering left and right. With facial expressions, I was trying to warn him about the bill. And finally, when the waiter went away I told him, and then we started counting our money.”
And what a strong, healthy, and full of life their – Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah – marriage has been. Truly, they have built a life together and grown together as a couple. They are goals. The way they’ve stuck by each other and maintained their relationship through all the ups and downs is definitely more than luck – it is hard work and the will to make it work.
