Rajasthan Is One Of The Most Unsafe States For Women In India As Per National Commission For Women

Not so shocking, tbh.

Yet another day to realise that women are not safe in our country. Every single day, I try to find a unique way to highlight the fact that the crimes against women and girls are increasing but no actions are being taken by the government to ensure the safety of women and it’s quite shocking, to be honest. Recently, the National Commission for Women said that Rajasthan is one of the most unsafe states in India for women. It’s shocking but not surprising at all because we get to hear such news every other day now.

Whenever I think about shifting to another state without my family, I see such stories about violence against women and change my mind. Recently, a representation received by National Commission for Women (NCW) highlighted that the number of crimes against women and girls including rape is increasing in Rajasthan. They also mentioned that Rajasthan is becoming unsafe for women and girls and the state police and the state government are failing in ensuring the safety of their female citizens which is a very serious issue.

The National Commission for Women had held a meeting with the Rajasthan police to discuss the increasing number of sexual assault cases and violent crimes against women and girls on March 16. It was headed by Chairperson Ms Rekha Sharma.

The meeting was held to seek an explanation for the delay in sending reports on the complaints and petitions taken up by the commission. In the meeting, the Rajasthan police shared year-wise data of crimes against women and minors before them. They also mentioned that they will share pending reports soon.

After seeing this, I’m really doubting if the government has taken any initiative to ensure the safety of women in our nation or not. The numbers are increasing and it’s scary.
