Who Is Prof. Najma Akhtar? The VC Of JMI Who Is Set To Receive A Padma Shri
As someone who has always admired teachers and been fascinated by teaching as a whole, I always look up to those that have made significant contributions in the field. To be fair, teaching as a profession is criminally underrated and anyone that can achieve great things within it does deserve recognition within it. Hence, I got curious to know more about Prof. Najma Akhtar is when I heard that she is the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and is going to receive the Padma Shri.
So, who is Prof. Najma Akhtar?

Prof. Akhtar is the VC of Jamia Millia Islamia. She has been selected to be awarded the Padma Shri by President Ramnath Kovind. The ceremony for the same is to be conducted on March 21, 2022, at the Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan for her great and significant contribution to the field of literature and education. However, there is more to Prof. Akhtar than this so let’s see what else has this brilliant woman accomplished.
Prof. Najma Akhtar was born on November 13, 1953. She received her PhD in Education, the topic being, A Comparative Study on Conventional & Distance Education System of Higher Education. She is also known to be the first female VC of JMI and the college got a grade of A++ in the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC). She also lead JMI to rank 6 for the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Education. Prof. Akhtar also led the university to score 95.23% in an evaluation of performance done by the Ministry of Education.

Prof. Najma Akhtar has also worked as a professor and the HOD of Training & Capacity Building in Education at NUEPA, Delhi. She also worked at IGNOU in the Distance Education Programme. She was also the Founder Director of SIEMAT in former Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Other than this, Prof. Akhtar has worked as the Director and the Controller of Examinations and Admissions at the Academic Programmes at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), according to sources.
