Priyanka Chopra Says Her 2018 Met Gala Outfit Had A Corset So Tight She Couldn’t Breathe. Why Are We Still Promoting This?

Fl-Priyanka-Chopra-reveals-2-most-uncomfortable-outfits-she’s-ever-worn

Everyone loves an important red carpet event. Be it the MetGala or the Oscars, watching our favourite celebrities wear gorgeous outfits that we would have to sell our kidneys to acquire is everyone’s not-so-secret guilty pleasure. However, have you ever stopped to wonder just how uncomfortable those outfits might be? The thing is, these celebrities have to dress to please. That means comfort is probably the only luxury they can’t afford. Talking about her two most uncomfortable fashion moments is our very own Priyanka Chopra Jonas. She talks about the dress she was wearing when she won the Miss India crown and her 2018 Met Gala outfit that had a corset so tight, it was crushing her torso. Ugh, can we be done with corsets already?

Speaking to People magazine, Priyanka was asked what were two red carpet outfits that she wore that looked amazing but were extremely uncomfortable. The first one, that she spoke about was surprisingly the dress she was wearing when she was crowned Miss India back in 2000. Priyanka said that the dress gave a whole lot of trouble since it was completely taped onto her but since she was nervous and sweating, the tape started coming off. She was forced to keep her hands in a ‘namaste’ just to prevent the dress from falling off. Am I the only one that finds this is a little funny?

Priyanka Chopra told People, “In the year 2000, I won Miss World and my dress was taped on to me. By the time I won at the end, I was stressing so much because it was so stressful that the entire tape came off. And the whole time I was doing my walk, I kept my hands like this in a ‘namaste’. People thought it was a namaste but it was actually holding my dress up.” Yikes.

Hat’s off to Priyanka Chopra for not only managing to keep the dress from falling apart but doing it with an effortless smile. That takes a tolerance-level most of us don’t have.

The second outfit that she spoke about was her 2018 Met Gala outfit. For those who don’t remember, it was this gorgeous red velvet Ralph Lawren gown with the gold hood. It was such a beautiful look, who would’ve thought it was killing Priyanka one rib at a time? Oh yeah, she said that the corset under the outfit was so tight that she could barely breathe or eat.

Priyanka said, “It was this blood-red, Ralph Lauren, beautiful outfits with a gold hood. But the corset under that thing, I couldn’t breathe! I felt like it reshaped my ribs. So hard to sit during dinner. Obviously couldn’t eat too much that night.”

Someone please explain to me, what is the need for corsets? Why must our celebrities appear like they have itty-bitty waistlines when in reality that stiff structure of the corset is jamming into their ribs and back practically cutting off their air supply? But then again, who needs air when you can look sexy instead, right?

In fact, when celebrities wear corsets to fit into the unrealistic beauty standards of our misogynistic society, it influences thousands of women to do the same. And that is not healthy.

Anyway, Priyanka Chopra’s candid confessions are proof that with celebrities, unfortunately, it is always style over comfort. Will that ever change?
