Priyanka Chopra Raises Her Voice Against Child Abuse, Says She’s Heard Many Horror Stories. We’re Glad She’s Talking About This

I am 24 years old right now, a writer by profession with my bio on Instagram describing me as ‘strongly opinionated’, but if I were to be honest, it wasn’t always like that especially when I was younger. I wasn’t always the bold and brazen version of myself that I am now. Some would say I am jaded. There was a time when I was naive, impressionable and just a kid who did not know any better. At that age, when kids are still forming their ideas and opinions about life, it is very important to nurture and raise them well and not exploit them. Actually, exploiting children at any point is just wrong.

A cause that has now become a national concern as child abuse is a terrible reality with numerous cases being reported every day where little children are subjected to heart-breaking and bone-chilling inhumane acts and it is now more than ever when people like us who can, need to raise our voices against this injustice.

Perhaps coming from the same line of thought were Smriti Irani and Priyanka Chopra when the two of them decided to talk about the distressing and rising cases of violence and abuse against children on their respective twitter handles. Smriti Irani while sharing a video that highlights the plight of such children whose voices are often left unheard, wrote, “Don’t be a mute spectator to child abuse. Speak up & initiate action. Dial 1098 #Childline. Let our children know there is a system that seeks to protect, rescue & rehabilitate them.”

Meanwhile, actress and UNICEF Goodwill ambassador Priyanka Chopra also retweeted on Smriti Irani’s tweet and wrote, “The innocence of a child is so fragile, and the responsibility to protect that is one of paramount importance. Having personally heard so many horror stories, there are too many children who have endured the worst of humanity, and this is simply unacceptable. You can Help stop the abuse…dial 1098 (India) to report it.Protect our children  #Childline.”

Shedding light on the gravity of the situation, that has seen an upward curve during this lockdown where people are forced to stay indoors with calls of help often going unnoticed, it only becomes  imperative to do our bit to contribute to the cause. It is time we also don’t turn a blind eye to such child abuse and help in protecting those who can’t protect themselves.
