Prince William Says He Would Be Supportive If His Kids Came Out As Queer. We Think It’s Cool!

June has been an eventful and celebratory time, precisely living up to the designation of Pride Month. The time of the year when everyone gets a little more appreciative and open-minded about love, identity and letting certain things be. And seems like Prince William may be the biggest Pride cheerleader, after what he recently had to say about the topic.

Speaking about the LGBTQIPA community recently, Prince William revealed how he would have no qualms about his children’s sexual identity, wherever it may lie. In a group discussion, a gay man asked the British royal, “If your child one day in the future said ‘oh I’m gay, oh I’m lesbian’ whatever, how would you react?” and the Duke replied  saying, “I think, you really don’t start thinking about that until you are a parent, and I think – obviously, absolutely fine by me.” As it should be.

While it is heartening to find out that there is no homophobia in the mind of Prince William, and therefore, being passed onto the people, what he said next was something that did make us a little saddened with the reality. The Duke further said, “It worries me not because of them being gay, it worries me as to how everyone else will react and perceive it and then the pressure is then on them. I fully support whatever the decision they make, but it does worry me from a parent point of view, how many barriers, hateful words, persecution, all that, and discrimination that might come.”

And that remains the reality of the situation. Wanting to be okay with things that are only normal, but not being able to fully accept the kind of repercussions that await you. But we think it is about time that these inhibitions are dealt with, for they’ve gotten the better of us for far too long. Well, not anymore, and Prince William agrees! Isn’t it heartening to know that the royal family, who is known for upholding tradition, is forward-thinking enough when it comes to pressing issues like these?
