PM Narendra Modi Awards 14 Girls With ‘Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar’, 4 Of Them Won The Bravery Award!

I feel like every country needs to appreciate their youth the same way they do the old. People underestimate the power and knowledge that the younger population has. And countries that choose to not get with the new, tend to fall back and have regressive mentalities, which is never good for any country. While respecting traditions is important, it is just as important to educate yourself on what the need of the hour is and alter yourself accordingly. I am personally glad to see PM Narendra Modi interact with the recipients of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar and talk to them about the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign.

A video call session was arranged so that PM Modi can interact with the winners of the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. He also talked about unveiling the holographic statue of Subhash Chandra Bose. He used Netaji as an example for the children and said that the biggest lesson we learn from Netaji is that duty and nation is our primary responsibility and it is important to keep walking on the path of the duty of the country.

29 children which included 14 girls were honoured with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in 6 different fields called: innovation, scholastic achievements, sports, arts and culture, social service and bravery. The winners were presented with a medal, certificate and a cash prize of  ₹ 1,00,000. The Bal Puraskar recipients certificates were digitally awarded using block technology.

The girls who won the National Bravery Award this year have blown everyone away by their present-mindedness and valour,

Shivampet Ruchitha

This 8-year-old girl from Telangana became the youngest recipient of the National Bravery Award this year by PM Modi.  On July 24, 2014, Ruchitha saved 2 of her schoolmates when a train was approaching her bus. When she saw a bus approaching, she showed incredible presence of mind and jumped off the bus pushing 2 of her schoolmates with her. However, she was unable to save her sister and her younger brother sustained injuries but is recovering.

Joena Chakraborty

This young girl from Chattisgarh showed incredible bravery when her father’s phone was nabbed. The 10-year-old ran after the man and ended up bringing back the phone! She stated, “I knew he would head for a narrow alley, so I reached there before him and caught his legs even though people were shouting that he had a knife,” according to sources.

Angelica Tynsong

When Angelica’s home caught fire in her parents’ absence on February 1, 2015, the 13-year-old saved her 7-month-old sleeping brother. And was awarded for the same by PM Modi. Kudos to her!

Even as an adult myself, I am completely in awe of how brave these young children are, especially the girls! In a world that keeps telling the youth to follow a downtrodden path, PM Narendra Modi’s Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar pushes them to pursue their own path.
