Let’s be fair, there is a lot of problematic media we all grew up watching that we didn’t detect until we were adults. However, I feel like other than people calling out the problematic stuff, studios are also doing their best to undo the damage done by retellings of stories with a more diverse cast and newer more inclusive stories. Disney too has made quite a few such reboots and is now planning to remake their classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage isn’t happy with this decision as he believes that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is offensive towards dwarves.
Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage appeared on Marc Maron’s podcast show called WTF With Marc Maron. He talked about his displeasure and disappointment with Disney as they have decided to remake Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with Latina actor, Rachel Zegler. However, he believes that the movie was offensive to dwarves. I apologize for being ignorant but I am not sure how the original was offensive to dwarves and his vague statement did not help educate me on the topic. “Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me,” is what Peter Dinklage said. I genuinely wish Dinklage would have been more specific regarding the offensive aspects of the movie.

“You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f***ing backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*** are you doing man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough,” said Dinklage.
Maybe if Peter Dinklage would have been more clear about the problematic and offensive portrayal of dwarves in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I would have understood what he was so offended about. As someone who doesn’t belong to the community, I might have missed what Dinklage is alluding to and I would like to be a bit more educated about it.
