Parineeti Chopra Talks Failure And How She’s Dealt With It And It Was Refreshing To See This Side Of Her

As humans, more often than not, we’re always of a ‘Grass is greener on the other side’ mindset about things and people. Especially when it comes to Bollywood and all the A-list celebrities. We see them get out of fancy cars, wearing couture worth 6 months of our salary and look picture perfect every time even if they’re even candidly captured on camera and we assume they’re living their best life. Which they might be. But when it comes to failure, guess we’re all the same and Parineeti Chopra is living proof.

The Jabariya Jodi actress, recently opened up about her struggles and failures during an appearance on the show Tapecast, and what she said resonated with all of us at so many different levels. She said, “I’m referring to the year 2015 – end of 2014 and all of 2015. I would say the one-and-half years were truly the worst time of my life. Two of my films, Daawat-e-Ishq and Kill Dil didn’t work. That was my first setback. Suddenly I didn’t have money. I had bought a house and done big investments. Then I went through a big heartbreak in my life. Literally all departments in my life were down and I had nothing positive to look forward to.” A scenario that we would never imagine or believe coming out of the mouth of a Bollywood star like herself.

Parineeti further talked about how it made her go into a shell of her own and how she pulled her back from everything – eating, sleeping and friends. She elaborated, “I cut off touch with everyone including my family. I would talk to them once in two weeks. I was gone. I just used to be in my room, watching TV, sleeping, getting up, staring all day. I was a zombie. I was typical filmy depressed girl. I would curl up on my sofa and sleep, falling ill all the time. I didn’t meet the media for almost six months.” And hearing that we could almost feel her pain and remorse saying this was the worst phase of her life.

The actress suffered through physical chest pains and was found to be dealing with clinical depression, up until the start of 2016 when she started doing a little better with the help of her brother – Sahej, and which is also when her movies like Golmaal, Meri Pyari Bindu also came about and did well, a ray of hope for Parineeti Chopra. And like a phoenix rising from ashes, Parineeti rose above her ordeals to take back the control of her life in her own hands.

Of course it didn’t come all at once or all that easy, but the actress shed light on how her downfall made her stronger than ever. She said, “I literally took life into my own hands because I thought if I go into this pit, I’ll never come out again. I was 25 and very vulnerable emotionally. I never had any gravitas. I was just a flying bird who didn’t have anything holding me. I thought if I don’t get out of it now I never will. Suddenly I started working a lot. Bindu really healed me. My personal life became better. I started meeting friends again. I had to call a lot of people and apologise for being out of touch. I had to reconnect with my people and now, touchwood, I’m prepared. Today if any kind of failure hits me, I’m definitely better prepared. I thank God everyday that this didn’t happen to me later. I am so glad it happened when I was 25. That jhatka (shock) so early can really fix you for life.”

And we agree. Failure is always the best teacher, and after seeing Parineeti Chopra being able to bounce back from her ordeal, we can only hope to take it as an inspiration for ourselves. Guess, Bollywood stars don’t really have everything laid out for them, but it is heartening to know, that an actress like her is doing all she can to make the best of it and prove her worth in the industry.

Her upcoming movie, Jabariya Jodi hits the theatres on August 9  and we hope it is as entertaining as the trailer for it has been!
