More Than 100 Male Students Of Madrid College Executed A Coordinated Verbal Abuse Of Female Students. Remind Us Again Why ‘Not All Men’?
Some sights are just so shocking that it makes you think, even this is happening in this world? The exact thought struck me when I came across the video of men catcalling women in a viral video from Madrid, Spain. And that too these were all college students. It is an unbelievable sight, and only shows the misogynistic and pathetic mentality of those students. When I dug deep, I also got to know some more shocking facts about this whole video of the students uttering unacceptable and sexist words for women, and that too unanimously.
The incident was reported from a college in Madrid, Elías Ahúja. In the video, you can see all the male students from this college, first shouting phrases like “whores, come out of your burrows like rabbits” and also using words like “f**ing nymphomaniacs”. This chant was made by pointing to the college’s female dormitory. At the end of the chant, all the window lights lit up and you could all the boys, standing at their window. The news was reported by a Spanish news company, El Politico and they even made it clear that this was not the first time when such an incident was witnessed in this college.

In fact, the more shocking news that came up with this incident was that this is kind of a ritual in the college and is known as the “Ritual of Machismo,” as per the news. It is also practiced every year when the new college sessions begin. So just imagine, this level of hate and sexist verbal abuse against women, a culture of catcalling is being passed on to the newer generations as well, and this is just so scary! A practice like this in an educational institution where youngsters are supposed to learn and mold their thinking into a more progressive one is beyond anyone’s imagination.

The college in view of the incident, released an official statement to condemn the incident. They put forth their immediate course of action following the incident, according to which the administration shall expel the students involved in this practice. In this statement, Elías Ahúja’s administration also mentioned that they would make it mandatory for students to attend and participate in sessions on gender equality, volunteering, and charity.

Well, the fact remains, that this year the video has gone viral, and caught the attention of people across the world. But, if the claims are true that this is a ritual in the college, then I believe it is very much dangerous and needs stricter actions against it. How was this idea of making abusive statements against women through a chant normalised and accepted by so many men together? How can we still say “Not all men?” after being a witness to this?
