Commonwealth Games 2022: Nooh Dastagir Butt, Pakistani Weightlifter Wins Gold, Says He Looks Up To Mirabai Chanu For Inspiration

Okay, I will admit that I am lazy and I don’t even like playing any sport because it requires so much energy. However, the Commonwealth Games 2022 is very interesting because Indian athletes are shining by collecting medals, we are honestly so proud of them. Well, speaking of Commonwealth Games, a Pakistani weightlifter who bagged a gold medal said that our country’s ace heavyweight lifter, Mirabai Chanu, is an inspiration. Well, he’s not wrong, she is an inspiring athlete! 

Pakistani weightlifter, Nooh Dastagir Butt made his country proud by winning its first gold medal at this edition of the Commonwealth Games which is held in Birmingham. After he won the gold in the men’s 109+kg category, the Indian champion was the first person who congratulated him. Butt said that it was a proud moment for him when the star weightlifter, who also bagged a gold medal this year, congratulated him and praised his performance.  Furthermore, the 24-year-old Pakistani athlete said that he looks up to Mirabai for inspiration and she has proved that South Asian athletes can also win an Olympic medal. He also mentioned that when she won the silver medal at the  Tokyo Olympics,  he was very proud of her.

Indian weightlifter Gurdeep Singh, who won bronze in the same category and you will be surprised to know that Nooh Dastagir Butt considers him one of his close friends and they have trained together a few times. 

The athlete mentioned that he has visited India two times and the support he received from the people is unforgettable.
