Nithya Menen Talks About Trolling And Body Shaming Saying People Should Get Educated On What’s Right!

Nithya Menen, who was seen in films including Ok Kanmani, Mersal, Ishq, Ustad Hotel and more has made her  Bollywood debut in the multi-starrer Mission Mangal. She isn’t the kind to play to the gallery – her first Bollywood movie has her in a father de-glam avatar. Nithya Menen plays the role of a scientist in the film. Nithya Menen opened up in an interview with rediff.com about trolling and body shaming issues. The Ok Kanmani actress revealed that because she was a public figure, at some point in her career, she did get affected by trolling.

Nithya Menen stressed on the fact that some people are super ignorant about weight issues. “I think people are ignorant because they assume automatically that if you have weight issues, it’s because you are lazy and eat a lot. That’s ignorance. I want to say that one faces weight issues very rarely because of being lazy and eating. Trust me, especially in the case of actors, we are not lazy.”

Social media is not always a fun place to be, specially for actors and public figures, who are an easy target for the trolls. Nithya Menen has also gotten body shamed in the past and she says people think having weight issues is because of them being lazy and inactive but they could have hormonal issues, or anything else possibly. “We need to educate people that weight is not just because we are sitting and enjoying our lives. Of course, trolling hurts me. I do get upset,” Nithya said.

After the monstrous success of Mission Mangal, Nithya Menen will be seen in the south film, Kolambi.  In the film, Nithya Menen will be playing the role of an actress who travels to Kochi for the installation of her art works at the Kochi Muziris Biennale. Kolambi is helmed by TK Rajeev Kumar and the actress is working with actors like Renji Panicker and Rohini who will feature in pivotal  roles.
