Neena Gupta Writes A Whole Book And Trolls Are Upset That She Wore Shorts To Gulzar’s House

No matter who you are, if you are a woman then people think it is okay to comment on what you wear. If you’re a celebrity like Neena Gupta, more so. For years now, women have been told by society what is ‘appropriate’ for them to wear and what is not. Whereas men on the other hand, can display their paunch and hairy chests for the world to see without anyone discussing it. What I am trying to say here is,  if men are allowed to wear whatever they feel like, then why aren’t women given the same freedom? Why aren’t women allowed to wear what they want? And why is this still up for comment?

Recently, Neena Gupta was trolled for wearing shorts to the legendary lyricist Gulzar Sahab’s house when she went there to give him a copy of her autobiography. Neena Gupta posted a video on Instagram, wherein she is handing over a copy of her autobiography, Sach Kahu Toh, to Gulzar Sahab outside his house and the trollers couldn’t stop themselves from commenting on her clothes.

Her comment section on her video was filled with comments like “Gulzar sahab k pass aap gaye the wo time aapko saadi pehen kr jana chahiye tha…sorry….kyuki Gulzar sahab Gulzar sahab hai”, “Age ke hisab se chalo madam”, and Ye sab gandgi hai aunty ji !!! Western culture bilkul kharab hai ! Or aap ye Jante hue bhi inka anusarn kar rahe ho ! Toh aaj ke bache apni history or religion ke bar mai kya hi jaan na pasand karenge !? Jab aap jaise log maail se bhari western culture ki chadar ohd lenge.”

With these comments having no relevance to the video when Neena Gupta was asked about these comments, she spoke to ETimes saying that “I fail to understand when anybody writes that I have been trolled for this. It’s plain rubbish. What’s the definition of ‘trolling’? Doesn’t it mean that several people are criticizing you? Look at the amount of praises I’ve received. Should I really even bother about just 2 or 4 people?”

When she was asked if she had a reply for these commentators, Neena Gupta said, “Why? Why should I give any importance to 2 to 4 people when they comprise just a scanty percent which is in contrast to those who’ve loved me for this?”

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do it. Giving these people the time of your day is wasting your time on them. They are the people who will never understand what a woman wears in her own business and not theirs. Instead of appreciating her book, as many other celebs have, the society that we live in has chosen to focus on what she is wearing instead of her achievements.  When will we see a woman for her achievements, instead of her clothes? When will we stop defining a woman by the way she dresses?

A woman, no matter her age, color, caste, religion, etc. can wear whatever she wants, whenever she wants. Period.
