Model Apernah Says That Jackky Bhagnani And Other Men Be Held Responsible If Anything Happens To Her

When the #MeToo movement took off, we expected great things from it. We expected heads to roll, that sexual harassment will be taken seriously and that rape would become a thing of the past. We were too optimistic. It was a small dent, if that at all. People who were named are back to work, rape continues to be rampant and literally no men are being held accountable.  Actresses, models, etc. all came out in the open and spoke about the abuse they’ve faced at the hands of high-profile men. But the battle doesn’t end there, does it? Cases and FIRs were filed against these men and the verdict on them is yet to come. But it doesn’t ensure the safety of these women. One of the prime examples being the model named Apernah who has alleged rape by Jackky Bhagnani.

The 28-year-old model Apernah who had come and spoken about her rape by Jackky Bhagnani and other high-profile men, recently took to her Instagram and said that if anything “unnatural” happened to her then these men should be held accountable.

In her Instagram post, model Apernah stated that these high-profile men including Jackky Bhagnani, had raped her are “still sending her death threats indirectly using violent pictures and videos on Instagram.” And even after blocking hundreds of such fake accounts, the messages haven’t stopped. Apernah makes it clear in her Instagram post that if anything were to happen to her – before or after the verdict – then these men should be held responsible for it. The allegation of rape is serious and we are surprised there has been literally no action being taken about her claim.

It is extremely disturbing to know that when women like Apernah come out and speaks about the physical abuse and rape allegations she has levelled, that she is not  getting the police protection she might need. In fact, even in her post, she reveals how long it had taken to file her first FIR.

And that needs to change. We need to create a safe space for women who want to come out and speak about the violence they have endured. We need to not only support them but also protect them and ensure that they get the justice they deserve. This will empower more women like Apernah to come out and seek help.
