Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu Wins Gold In Singapore, Qualifies For Commonwealth Games. We’re So Proud!

In the past few years, women in sports have not only just created a name for themselves but also made history with their achievements. One such sportswoman is Mirabai Chanu. Yep, the weightlifter who has time and again proved her mettle. And now once again she is back in the game to just do so. The weightlifter qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the 55kg weight category by winning the gold in Singapore Weightlifting International.


On Friday, February 25th, 2022, Mirabai Chanu competed in the 55kg weight class for the first time where she lifted 191kg (86kg + 105kg). Needless to say, the weights were enough to help her win the gold in Singapore Weightlifting International and qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

Speaking about her victory and being able to qualify for the Commonwealth Games, Mirabai Chanu said, “7 months of intense training and my never-ending love for the sport continues to pay off. I would like to extend my thanks to our Ministry of Youth and Affairs, Weightlifting Federation of India, SAI, IOS Sports, and all the other stakeholders who have helped me reach here. I am determined to work harder and do everything I can to grab the gold medal again for my country in the CWG.”


As per reports, this win for the weightlifter is a big deal, especially after she pulled out from the world championships in December. And the weightlifter’s first competitive event after the historic Tokyo Olympic Games 2021 where her performance confirmed India’s 2nd silver medal in weightlifting.


She most definitely is one of the best weightlifters we have and a true inspiration for all those who are looking to start a career in sports. Needless to say, her performance has won hearts and made India proud globally.
