#MeToo Accused Harvey Weinstein Convicted Of Third Degree Rape Charges. This Is A Huge Leap Forward For The #MeToo Movement

The thing about justice is that more than it being about what is right and moral, it is also about the feeling that the person in the wrong has got what they deserve. It is about relief, it is about karma taking charge and life coming a full circle. As it probably did for the now infamous Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein who was recently charged with third degree rape after his trial running in the court for months on account of several sexual harassment allegations made against him finally came to fruition.

With over 80 women having coming to the fore to accuse the Hollywood producer of exploiting women, misusing his position and power in the industry, Harvey Weinstein was one of the people who was unmasked as a serial sexual predator in the #MeToo Era and had his trial going on for a few months now. With strong and graphic testimonies from women who accused him of sexual misconduct, namely Annabella Sciorra and Jessica Mann, the conviction is an important step in the right direction.

The jury in New York that sat for this long trial, convicted Weinstein of third-degree rape of the former aspiring actress, Jessica Mann, as well as a count of criminal sexual act in the first degree against Mimi Haley, a former “Project Runway” production assistant who pursued similar charges against Weinstein.

The 67-year-old, no longer #MeToo accused but #MeToo convicted Weinstein may have been acquitted of two first degree rape charges and other serious sexual allegations, that went up to a life sentence each, but has been convicted of third degree charges that would see him serve between 5 years to life in the prison which is a giant leap for womankind.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. whose office saw the prosecution of the serial rapist, made a statement saying how the women, “changed the course of history in the fight against sexual violence,” and we agree with him. He then continued saying, “It is a new day because Harvey Weinstein has finally been held accountable for crimes he committed. Weinstein is a vicious, serial sexual predator who used his power to threaten, rape, assault and trick, humiliate and silence his victims.”

A landmark trial and a landmark prosecution of the #MeToo accused that shall hopefully serve as the perfect example for those out there who still think they can go scot free after exploiting women, we need to happen closer home.Women like Mann, Sciorra and Mimi have indeed changed the course of history and showed true heroic and courageous attitude that is something to look up to and realise that there is nothing that can stop us from taking those down who have wronged us.
