Texas Elementary School Mass-Shooting Killed 18 Children. Yet, Pro-Lifers Justify Gun Laws But Call Abortion Murder?
Officials say a gunman killed at least 18 children and a teacher in a rural Texas elementary school on Tuesday and called it the deadliest American elementary school shooting since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre that happened a decade ago. The killings occurred just before noon at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, a small community west of San Antonio, where second through fourth children were preparing to begin summer break this week. Officials said the gunman was an 18-year-old student at a high school nearby; he also died at the scene.
As parents in Uvalde awaited word on their children’s safety late Tuesday, law enforcement officials rushed to figure together how the massacre had occurred, the mass shooting reopened a nationwide political discussion about gun legislation and the abundance of weapons. A gunman fatally murdered ten people inside a Buffalo, New York, grocery store ten days prior. “He shot and killed horrifically, incomprehensibly,” Governor Greg Abbott said at a news conference.
According to sources, Abbott said the shooter was a native from the same county as the incident, that he went to high school there, and that he acted alone. According to the governor, he attacked the elementary school with a handgun or maybe even a rifle. It was unclear whether the shooting occurred in a single classroom or multiple, and authorities did not reveal the names or ages of the children or the teacher who were slain.
According to a law enforcement official who asked to remain anonymous to describe the investigation, officials were investigating whether the shooter, whom they identified as Salvador Ramos, was targeting the school or if he happened to be there by chance. The shooting appears to have harmed at least two law enforcement officers, neither of whom was critically hurt, according to the official.
The shooting occurred on election day in Texas. Voters across the state went to the polls for primary runoffs that would determine who would run in the November election, at a time when the state and the country were riven by political divisions over race, immigration, and abortion.
In a country like the US that prides itself on freedom and lectures everyone on human rights, it is rich to me that even their third graders aren’t safe in their own schools. Moreover, the entire Roe v. Wade verdict is based on the fact that most republicans are pro-lifers and believe that fetuses’ have life and abortion is apparently “murder”. But the hypocrisy of the same “pro-lifers” being against gun laws that are actually killing so many children and people. The question then arises if it is about saving lives or it is about controlling women’s bodies. Take a look at the rightful Twitter outrage over this massacre:
Enough is enough. As a nation, we must have the courage to take action and prevent this from ever happening again. It is long past time for our country to stand up to the gun lobby and pass reasonable gun safety laws.

I am sure she means well but what are prayers going to do if there is no action taken?!
To the people of Uvalde: Please know that we grieve with you. We are praying for you. And we stand with you.

Tonight in Uvalde, Texas, there are parents who lost children. Families who have lost loved ones. And many who have been injured.
As a nation, we must have the courage to take action and prevent this from ever happening again.

I cannot fathom how scary it is for parents to send their kids to school. And all the trauma the survivors will go through as well!
It's too much. This is not normal. We should never allow school shootings to feel "normal." NO shootings should feel "normal."
How many times do we need to say #EnoughIsEnough before it's actually #ENOUGH for those with the power to do something about it?https://t.co/nKxcpVMoxI

Across the country, parents are putting their children to bed, reading stories, singing lullabies—and in the back of their minds, they’re worried about what might happen tomorrow after they drop their kids off at school, or take them to a grocery store or any other public space.

Hey Bhagwan! This is just soul crushing.
Prayers, #Texas. Prayers, #America. May you find healing, and the long overdue good sense to drop the guns. That’s the only way to stop the bullets! #EndGunViolenceNow #2A https://t.co/nZMR4zwjD8— Ranvir Shorey (@RanvirShorey) May 24, 2022

Tonight, there are parents who will never see their child again. Parents who will never be the same.

I ask the nation to pray for them — to give them strength in the darkness.

As a nation we must ask: When in God’s name will we stand up to the gun lobby?
When in God’s name will we do what needs to be done?
I’m sick and tired of it. We have to act.

These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen elsewhere in the world.
Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it?
It’s time to turn this pain into action.

You want to know what enrages me the most about this whole situation? The fact that it was so easy to avoid. That proper gun laws could have prevented this but due to people who refuse to give up power, control and greed, civilians are suffering. How do they have the audacity to term themselves as ‘pro-life’ after enabling multiple massacres? How is it that an unborn foetus holds more meaning to these people than their already existing citizens? Doesn’t that essentially mean that it was never about religion or wanting to save lives. It is and has always been about power and control over minorities and their choices.
