“Male Actors Can Have a Kid And Still Romance Younger Leading Ladies”, Says Amrita Rao

Whether it’s the king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan or the Big Boss, Amitabh Bachchan, or even the slightly younger but legendary actors like Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and so on, chances are we’ve seen them acting alongside actresses that came way after their own generations. Bollywood, as an industry, has always managed to make its male actors the stars but this courtesy has never extended to actresses that age, like we all do. Sure, everyone talks about age and all,but no one really walks the talk when it comes to actresses.

A fact that was recently also corroborated by actress Amrita Rao, who went on to shed light over how motherhood changes the game for actresses in the industry, while actors continue to bag roles under big banners, alongside newer actresses, without worrying about aging.

While speaking to Bollywood Bubble, she said, “Invariably, you are afraid of things changing. You are afraid of the whole perception changing and it happens to girls only. It doesn’t happen to guys. You can have a kid or two kids and still romance younger leading ladies. Life doesn’t change at all for the leading men but it changes a little for the leading ladies.”

A case that she said wasn’t so earlier in the day. Citing examples of actresses like Nutan and Sharmila Tagore, who went on to have successful careers despite marriage and children, she then said how the narrative completely changed  from the 1980s onwards.

Calling Kajol the only exception, Amrita Rao said, “My generation yet has to see that.” She also shared how many actresses have chosen to embrace motherhood and are yet to  ‘get back to plummer roles’ and pick up from where they left off. She says, “I think we might achieve that,” and here is hoping that they do, for there is no reason that anything must stop women from having it all.

If anything, as we see more and more actresses break the stereotypes of marrying in their primes and getting back to work, it would be thrilling to see how well actresses like Anushka Sharma, Kareena Kapoor and the likes of them bounce back!
