Madhya Pradesh: Five Men Drag A Woman Into Bushes And Raped Her

In the last few days, the news about Taliban offenses increasing in Afghanistan has been very disturbing. And there are Indians who are talking about how unsafe Afghanistan is for women now. And I’m not trying to compare here, but why are we not talking about the increase in rape cases in India? Every other day we have cases of rapes coming and it is hurtful and disturbing, to say the least. On Sunday in Madhya Pradesh, a woman was dragged by five men and then they raped her .

Recently, in Madhya Pradesh, a 60-year-old woman was on her way home when five drunk men saw her, dragged her to the nearby bushes, and then raped her. Out of the five accused of raping the 60-year-old woman, two of them were under the age of 18.

This incident took place in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. It was nighttime when the incident took place. The five drunk men who dragged the woman into the bushes and raped her, fled from the scene when the woman managed to go to a nearby police station where she revealed the details of the incident.

The superintendent of the police in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, Anil Sonkar said that the woman who was dragged and raped, “was heading towards home when the incident took place. On getting information, the police swung into action and arrested all five accused.”

It breaks my heart to know that no matter where you’re in the country – Madhya Pradesh or Kerala – the abuses women have to face doesn’t stop. These drunk men dragged her and raped her – and all they had to say to justify it was that they were drunk! Being drunk is not an excuse. If you can’t handle your drink then you should not be drinking. And more than a drink, it is the mentality of the men that are at fault. We need to raise our men better and make them understand that women are not their property but human beings just like them.
